Apple releases macOS Tahoe 26.6.1 to patch critical Screen Sharing security flaw

Apple has released macOS Tahoe 26.6.1, a rapid security update that addresses a serious vulnerability in the built-in Screen Sharing feature. The update, which arrived on Thursday without any new features, is strongly recommended for all Mac users running the latest version of the operating system.

Screen Sharing allows users to view and control another Mac remotely over a local network or the internet. It is widely used for remote support, file access, troubleshooting, and managing multiple Macs in homes, schools, or businesses. Once connected, a remote user can see the desktop, open apps, transfer files, and control the keyboard and mouse as if sitting at the machine.

The vulnerability could allow an attacker on the same network to authenticate to Screen Sharing without valid credentials. Apple fixed the issue through improved state management. The company has not indicated whether the flaw was being actively exploited in the wild. The same Screen Sharing bug affects earlier macOS versions, so Apple also issued companion security updates: macOS Sequoia 15.7.9 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.9.

Mac users can install the update by going to System Settings > General > Software Update. No corresponding updates for iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS were released alongside this Mac-only security patch.

Given the potential for unauthorized remote access, installing macOS Tahoe 26.6.1 (or the relevant update for older systems) promptly is advised.

Tips to customize the new iOS 27 Siri app on iPhone or Mac

Go through these quick tips to personalize the new Siri app on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac to get the best experience and make the most out of all its features.

iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 Golden Gate (currently in beta) add a new Siri app, which is similar to other text-based conversational AI apps like ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude. You can type your query or use voice to get relevant answers.

What you ask is automatically saved as a conversation in the app so you can reference it later. Additionally, the queries you ask Siri voice assistant (the same one you invoke by pressing the Siri button or saying “Hey Siri”) are also saved in the new Siri app.

On top of that, everything syncs via iCloud, ensuring that all chats, regardless of which device you started them on, are available on all your iPhone, iPad, and Mac for a seamless experience.

Here are some tips for customizing this new app to your liking. Note that while I’m using an iPhone to demo the steps, everything mentioned here is also available on iPad and Mac.

    Change the conversation view style

You can choose to see all your past Siri conversations in list or grid view. I prefer the list view as it shows me more on one screen.

    1. Open the new Siri app, and you should see your conversations. If not, tap the X icon at the top.
    2. Tap the three lines menu icon and select Grid or List styles.

    Rename conversation title

When you use Siri or ask a question in the new Siri AI app, the service automatically assigns a relevant name to your conversation. While this name is usually correct, you do have the option to change it to something you think is better.

    1. Open the Siri AI app and go to your conversations.
    2. Touch and hold a conversation, select Rename, and give it a new title.

    Pin conversations to the top

Just like Notes, Messages, and WhatsApp let you pin your most important stuff to the top of the screen, the Siri app does the same so that you can reference important conversations easily.

Chat apps like Messages and WhatsApp have a limit on how many items you can pin to the top. It’s 9 for Messages and 3 for WhatsApp, which increase to 20 if you subscribe to WhatsApp Plus. But similar to Notes, the Siri app doesn’t seem to have a limit. I pinned more than 10 conversations, and it continued working.

    1. Go to the all conversations screen in the Siri app.
    2. Touch and hold a chat and select Pin to stick it to the top of this screen.

Set Siri app to open to a new conversation

You can have the Siri AI app open to a new conversation screen (like how ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude open). Or, you can have it show all your past conversations, and then tap the new chat button from there.

I rarely need to go back to my past Siri chats, so I have set it to launch with a new conversation by default so I can start asking my new query right away.

    1. Open the iOS 27 Settings app or macOS 27 System Settings.
    2. Select Siri.
    3. Tap Opens To and select ‘A New Conversation’ or ‘Recent Conversations.’

    Auto delete conversations

Just like you can set all old messages to auto-delete, the new Siri app has a similar option to keep your experience clean and devoid of past baggage.

    1. Go to iOS Settings or macOS System Settings and select Siri.
    2. Tap Keep Conversations.
    3. Select 30 Days or 1 Year instead of Forever. Remember that this feature applies retroactively, meaning if you select 30 Days, all current chats that are older than this will be permanently deleted now.

Select and delete past conversations quickly

While there is an easy Select button on the Siri conversations screen, there is a faster way to select multiple conversations and delete them. This requires using the two-finger gesture, which also works in Messages, Mail, and other iOS apps.

    1. Open the Siri app and go to the conversations screen.
    2. Tap the menu icon and make sure you’re in List style view.
    3. Drag with two fingers to select multiple conversations in a smooth manner.
    4. Tap the trash icon to delete selected Siri chats.

Adjust the preview limit for conversations

Similar to the Mail app that allows you to see how many lines of email you want to see on the main Inbox screen, you can set the Siri AI app to display 1 to 5 lines or none at all.

If you select None, the Conversations screen will only show the chat titles. But selecting a number between 1 and 5 displays that many lines of the answer.

    1. Head to iPhone or iPad Settings or Mac System Settings and select Siri.
    2. Select Preview and pick None, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.
    3. Now, go to the Siri app Conversations screen to see the changes.

Open a chat in a separate window

Unlike iPhone, you can touch and hold or Control-click a conversation on iPad and open it in its own separate window.
