Apple’s first touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro could arrive as soon as October

M3 Max MacBook Pro 16-inch in Space Black

Apple is expected to introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models in October or November, Bloomberg News’ Mark Gurman said on the premiere of his new Power On podcast.

Speaking with Bloomberg News tech editor Vlad Savov on the October 1st episode, Gurman said he believes Apple will unveil long-rumored 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with touch-enabled OLED displays this fall.

“Apple, I believe, will introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro this fall, as early as October,” Gurman said. “It could slip to November, but as early as October.”

He added that Apple is testing the laptops with macOS 27.2, which is currently in beta. That update is expected toward the end of October, which MacRumors noted could line up with an announcement later this month.

Beyond the OLED touchscreen, other features tied to the models include Apple’s existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, a thinner design, and a Dynamic Island in place of the notch. MacRumors also pointed to earlier Gurman reporting that Apple has explored cellular Macs, which has led some to hope the new machines might include a custom C1X or C2 modem. That remains speculation, not a claim from the new episode.

The touchscreen models are expected to sit above the regular 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, which are reportedly set to move to M7 Pro and M7 Max chips next year. It is not clear whether the OLED versions will keep the MacBook Pro name or get a distinct label such as MacBook Ultra.

The podcast’s main focus was broader than the laptop. In the 35-minute premiere, Gurman and Savov discussed Apple’s long-awaited smart-home push and whether its AI-powered devices — and a significantly more capable Siri AI — can give people a reason to leave competing platforms. They also debated whether the iPhone 18 is worth buying and whether Apple’s influencer strategy trades harder questions for friendlier coverage. Gurman fielded listener questions on the touchscreen MacBook Pro and on whether hardware chief John Ternus will eventually drop prerecorded presentations for a live keynote. How to see when your Mac was manufactured in macOS 27

Learn about a quick, built-in way to see the month and year when your Mac was manufactured, as long as it’s running macOS 27 Golden Gate.

MacBook showing Golden Gate bridge wallpaper on screen

Starting with iPhone 15, iPad Air M2, and iPad Pro M4, Apple started showing the battery’s manufacture date right in the Settings app.

But Mac was left behind. So you had to use third-party apps like coconutBattery or estimate your Mac’s age based on its battery’s manufacturing date. If your Mac model was from before 2021, you could also use its serial number to decode the manufacture date and location (like China, Vietnam, etc.). This is no longer possible, as Apple has since switched to a randomized serial numbering system that no longer carries these details.

macOS 27 Golden Gate (which you can easily install on a partition to have two versions of macOS on the same Mac) adds a super easy but non-obvious way to find out when your computer was manufactured. It hides the date in the regulatory certificate section, and we’ll show you how to uncover it, thanks to a tip from pdfu (who also shared earlier how to enable a hidden Siri UI in macOS 27).

However, another user (adrianlondon) soon shared that the date of manufacture shown there isn’t exactly the Mac’s, but rather its logic board. Adrianlondon says:

I bought my MacBook in November 2024, and it says it was manufactured in February 2025!

I had the logic board replaced in April 2025 under warranty, so it’s showing the logic board’s manufactured date, which makes sense, I suppose.

We can conclude that the date of manufacture you see on the regulatory certificate is for the logic board, not the entire unit. But if your computer has never been repaired, this date gives you a pretty close idea of when your Mac was put together (give or take a couple of weeks).

See your Mac’s manufacturing date in macOS 27 settings

    1. Update your Apple silicon Mac to the latest version of macOS 27 Golden Gate.
    2. Open System Settings and go to General > About.
    3. Scroll to the bottom and click the tiny Regulatory Certification link.
    4. A separate window will appear, with the Date of Manufacture mentioned at the bottom.

Clicking Regulatory Certification in macOS 27 to see Mac's Date of Manufacture

My MacBook Air (or rather its logic board) was manufactured in July 2025, and I had purchased it in the first week of September 2025.

My Mac mini was manufactured in December 2022 (I had purchased it in January 2023).

Seeing date of manufacturing of my Mac desktop

My old M1 MacBook Pro is still on macOS 26 Tahoe, and hence it doesn’t show the date of manufacture when I click the Regulatory Certification link in System Settings.

Which Mac model do you have, and when was it manufactured?
