iPadOS lets you resize Home screen app icons

For the first time ever, Apple tablet owners will finally be able to resize app icons on the Home screen when the iPadOS software update arrives this fall.

As noted by MacRumors, this feature first appeared in the fifth beta of iPadOS.

You can access this feature in the fifth beta of iPadOS via a new menu in the Settings app, aptly titled App Icon Size. In that section, you can easily customize the Home screen by choosing between bigger or smaller icons, as described further below:

  • Bigger: Shows up to 20 larger app icons by setting the app grid to be 4×5.
  • More: Shows up to 30 smaller app icons by setting the app grid to be 6×5.

This feature is not available on any iPhone model with the fifth beta of iOS 13, not on the larger-screened Plus models nor on the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max.

We don’t think the new App Icon Size setting will appear in latter iOS 13 betas because the app grid on iPhone is just right whereas on iPad people have long complained about wasted space between the Home screen icons.

How do you fancy this nifty new setting in iPadOS?
