The Absolute 3 Best Photo/Video Apps Only For iPhone

It is an undeniable fact that more pictures and videos have been taken in the last 12 years, that is, ever since 2007, the year the iPhone hit the market, than in all the years prior.

And for a very good reason. Everyone has a smartphone (or almost everyone) and every smartphone is also a very capable camera and video recorder.

Every year that actual camera in your phone gets better but regardless of the make, model, or year of your iPhone, the app that you use has an enormous impact on the quality of the results you get.

It’s so easy to just plod along using the built-in app provided by Apple but don’t you want to do more?

The three apps we’re highlighting today, Halide, Hyperlapse, and Apollo, are three of the best photo and video apps available and they’re only available for the iPhone.

You can safely thumb your nose at your Android buds because these apps are not available for their phones.

Apollo: Immersive Illumination $0.99 iOS 11.0+ iPhone*

Apollo, from Indice, Ltd, offers you an incredible capability that you won’t find anywhere else. It actually lets you add light sources AFTER you take your shot.

This only works for “Portrait Mode” photos but still, quite an interesting and fun feature.

It does this by using the depth data of your portrait mode photos to calculate photorealistic light and shadow and then reconstructs a 3D map of your photo which then lets you add new light sources in real time.

Your portrait mode photographs will instantly morph from plain to amazing working with this unique feature. We suggest you give it a go and get comfortable with it.

Whether you’re a professional photographers or a bumbling amateur you can easily create some very cool effects by adding or even removing light.

In addition to all this functionality you also benefit from the developer’s intense focus on ease-of-use. The UI is designed for use with one thumb so it’s easy to view the entire photo.

*Note Apollo operates on Portrait Mode photos (requires iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, X, Xr, Xs or Xs Max)

Hyperlapse Free iOS 9.0+ iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch

Hyperlapse, from Instagram, Inc., is the perfect add-on for anyone (everyone?) who uses Instagram. Obviously being from Instagram itself gives them a leg up, but so what? Why not take advantage of their expertise to make your posts more eye-catching and interesting?

We have to say, there’s something about time-lapse videos that are just incredibly cool, when they’re done well that is. With Hyperlapse you don’t have to worry about the app, only what you’re shooting. One of the key effects available with Hyperlapse is instant image stabilization.

This is a huge deal and instantly makes your video smooth and professional looking. A great example is going on a ski run that might take 20 mins, a 5K run that might take 40 mins or a backroad bike ride that might take an hour and show it off in 5 or 1o secs.

Halide Camera $5.99 iOS 11.0+ iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch

Halide has been recognized on multiple occasions as one of the best photo apps around. You reap the fruits of the obsessive focus on perfection that the developers at Chroma Noir LLC have brought to this incredible app.

Its professional-level high-end tools, and well-designed UI easily makes this photo app your default whenever you want to think about the quality of your shot rather than just taking a pic as quickly as possible.

Changing exposures and manual focus in Halide is as easy as a quick swiping gesture. Your toolbag in this app include everything from manual depth capture, and RAW support (on supported phones*), to adaptive level grid, and much more.

Some of its main features are: its amazing intuitive gesture-based interface, usability with one hand on iPhone X or later phones, full manual controls including focus, shutter speed, ISO and white balance, captures RAW, TIFF, HEIC or JPG for the best quality shots*, and quick-review of your last few shots.

Note that some features require specific iPhone models due to physical camera capabilities.

  • Warren Buffett’s Paper Wizard is an Awesome Casual Game

    Reviewed by Jimbo

The challenge behind some games can walk that fine line between fun and frustrating, and sometimes it doesn’t take much to push it over to the latter.

Warren Buffett’s Paper Wizard, designed by Wildlife Design, Inc. puts in all the fun wrapped in a casual very pleasing package.

    Concept and Functionality:

The graphics are definitely cute and adequate, with a neighborhood paper route theme.

Your job is to deliver papers on your route by firing at them at the circle targets that come into view. There are obstacles such as flocks of birds that fly past and various utility poles that can block your shot.

Each customer on your route is either a home or, as the game progresses, a window in an apartment building. Whatever they are, they all have a circle target letting you know you have to hit them with a paper.

If you hit the target you get points but if you miss you have points deducted. Aiming your paper can seem a bit tricky at first since you have to take into account not only the distance to the target but how fast your moving past it. But you quickly see that it’s a lot like shooting a rock in Angry Birds with the additional help of dots that will let you know where your flung paper will wind up.

Warren Buffett’s Paper Wizard iPhone Game

    Features:

There’s really not much to talk about here. The game, by design, is quite simple and so there aren’t many features.

You can fire off the papers at different speeds so they go different distances and you can even hit some birds, which will lower your score, but it’s fun anyway.

I’m not sure there are any “missing” features though, since for what it is the game works just fine. You start moving along your route and when you see a target you pull back on the paper that queued up, wait until the dots indicate you’re likely to hit your target, and let ‘er go.

    Value:

Overall this game is a sweet value. It’s free to download with no ads or IAPs to distract you. Simple pull it up with you have some spare time to kill and get to it.

Warren Buffett’s Paper Wizard is fun, relaxing and just challenging enough to keep you interested. You may not learn how to become a billionaire investor but it’s a solid game and gets a solid recommendation from us.

Warren Buffett’s Paper Wizard – requires iOS 11.0 or later compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
