    Reviewed by Sarah Hanlon

Whether you’re a professional photographer or a budding amateur, having the right tools in your arsenal is imperative for capturing the perfect shot.

Douglas Photo Calculator lets you quickly and easily calculate depth of field, hyperfocal distance, angle of view, and diffraction with just a few taps.

It does this by precisely calculating measurements based on parameters that you set.

    Concept and Functionality:

It’s easy to understand how some can be overwhelmed by a comprehensive app like Douglas Photo Calculator, by Douglas Software.

This is especially true if you’re just getting started in photography and you’re not too familiar with technique and terminology. However, this app is very easy to use once you familiarize yourself with it.

All we can say is, stick with it, you’ll be glad you did.

When you first download the app you’ll have to set a few parameters to match your shooting conditions. You can choose your language, film format, unit of measurement, and resolution.

The main calculation screen allows you to change the film format if you need to. You can also change settings for focal length, aperture, distance, and even the infamous “circle of confusion”.

  • Baby’s Musical Hands is Perfect for Your Curious Toddler

    Reviewed by Jimbo

Baby’s Musical Hands is an incredible app that provides a playful musical experience for preschoolers.

This well-designed app is sure to delight as it taps into your toddlers natural interest in music.

    Features:

As indicated by its name, Baby’s Musical Hands, an app by Streaming Colour Studios, features a music environment for preschoolers that is focused on touching the iPad’s screen to make music.

To be blunt, it’s simply wonderful, with the emphasis on “simply”. The beauty of this app is what it doesn’t do. It doesn’t have any ads, IAPs, menus, cautions, instructions, parental  guidelines or anything.

It is a screen of large colored squares that respond to touch with the sound of an instrument and a circular burst as visual feedback.

Reddish squares will make sounds as if you’ve hit a drum or symbols, yellowish squares sound like the pluck of a guitar, and bluish squares sound like a keyboard.

While the options are limited there are some that are pretty neat. You don’t have to just touch one square, your toddler can hit lots of squares at the same time for a bit of a muddle of sounds but a very nice visual effect.

Also, if your rugrat drags their finger along the screen they will see one burst but they will hear all the different sounds each square makes.

    Appearance and Layout:

The graphics of this app are certainly age appropriate. Although incredibly simple, this simplicity helps keep the focus of the app on its intended activity.

There is no navigation or training needed so a young child can figure out how to play the game on his or her own with minimal assistance. That is, just put the iPad in front of them with the app running.

Keep in mind that you can disable the home button so your child cannot accidentally exit the app. This can be accomplished in iOS 6 or later via Guided Access in the Accessibility options in Settings and can be done for any app, not just this one.

As a whole, the appearance and layout of Baby’s Musical Hands perfectly aligns with its intended purpose.

    Value:

Baby’s Musical Hands will run you a buck to download. This is an incredible deal given the joy it will no doubt bring to your child.

Overall, the value of this app compared to others designed for toddlers is quite exceptional in our opinion.

Baby’s Musical Hands is a fun app that will delight your preschooler while providing a safe play space for them to explore musical sounds.

Baby’s Musical Hands requires iOS 8.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.
