  • Flow – Depression is the Perfect App for These Crazy Times

    Reviewed by Jimbo

Flow – Depression provides helpful information along with audio and video exercises from noted experts wrapped in a well-designed and easy-to-use tool that helps users manage their stress.

Featuring customizable anti-stress plans, this app helps users regain control over the stress in their lives.

    Features:

Flow – Depression is perfect for today’s stressful situation a much needed focus towards helping consumers combat feelings of depression and improve overall mental health.

Developed by Flow Neuroscience AB, this app does this by connecting with the Flow neural stimulator headset. The brain stimulation headset isn’t cheap (€459, or about $516USD), but then again when compared to the cost of therapy the monthly payment plan looks quite reasonable.

Also, it’s worth noting that while you’re likely to get the best results by using the headset, you can use the treatment program without buying the headset. That’s a nice option that gives would-be users a chance to see if it’s something they may want to go further with.

The treatment program covers key areas of your overall well being including exercise, meditation, sleep and nutrition. We’re glad it covers nutrition because as they used to say in the ’70s, you are what you eat.

Good nutrition (i.e., less junk and pre-packaged food) might be all you need.

    Appearance and Layout:

Flow – Depression offers an impressive variety of features that tells you right away the developers have put lots of thought into what they want to do and how they believe users would be best served by it.

Navigation through Flow is a beautifully easy task. The designers of the app did an excellent job of incorporating its many features into a fairly simple layout that users will benefit from every time they use it.

Additionally, the graphics used throughout this app are also clean and clear; good quality photos and images keep things bright and engaging to the eyes, and all icons used within Flow are easy to understand as well.

    Value:

While Flow is a free download, it is best used with a headset that will run you about $25 per month.

Of course, if it works for users, this price is minute compared to the cost of other more popular depression-relieving strategies (like in-person therapy or medication).

We are somewhat conflicted by this but users rate the app and headset as effective so we would love to get your feedback should you decide to the app with or without the headset.

Overall, this is a polished app that is well designed and offers a no-cost way to begin exploring what they have to offer.

Flow – Depression requires iOS 11.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

  • Discord is Happening so Get on Board

    Reviewed by Jimbo

It wasn’t too long ago when the only contact information we had to worry about was our phone number and our address. As technology has progressed and social media has taken a hold on modern civilization, our contact details have expanded to email addresses, YouTube channels, and much more.

Discord is an innovative app that is incredibly well designed and easily merges key areas of your online life: communities, colleagues, gaming and friends/family.

    Concept and Functionality:

Let’s face it, connecting with people who are like-minded is what we all want. That like-mindedness can come from any number of areas and typically revolves around work, family/home, friends and online communities of interest.

One area of interest that is common to many of us and one that we are deeply involved in is gaming.

Gaming sets Discord apart of the competition and is easily the part of its functionality that is most responsible for its meteoric rise.

This app, of course, also functions as a more general network for all kinds of groups, allowing you to easily find fellow Discord users and share with them.

No matter how you prefer to connect, Discord has you covered. Share videos, coordinate meetups, or just talk about your day by open a voice channel, which is like your own private radio station.

Discord definitely gets extra credit for being so versatile.

    Features:

    Discord iPhone App

One of the things about Discord that we really like is the registration process. Quick, easy, and all you need is an email address.

With all the bs happening with Facebook privacy and unregulated access to users’ data (supposedly fixed but who knows?), it refreshing that you don’t need a Facebook account to sign up.

Once registered you then “Create Your Server” by selecting an existing template such Gaming or Study Group or you can not use a template and Create My Own.

According to the app, “Your server is where your group hangs out. Make one to start chatting with your friends for free”.

In fact there’s nothing about this that is confusing or difficult. You simply invite those who you want to connect with by using the link provided and start sharing text, voice and video among the group. People can then be assigned to roles and groups so your level of control as to how people are notified can be highly selective.

Another incredibly useful aspect to this social platform is the way the moderator can manage the pace of the interactions. You can adjust the interaction speed of comments from very slow (“Slowmode Cooldown”) to no limit (“Slowmode is off”). We’ve never seen that anywhere else.

    Value:

Discord is available to download from the App Store for free and is designed for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. There are some in-app purchases for more “professional” use but casual use is free.

Whether you want to share a few details with friends, or you have an account with every social networking service, Discord is something you definitely have to try.

Discord requires iOS 10.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
