Apple releases iOS 26.5.1 for iPhone

Apple has just pushed out iOS 26.5.1, a minor point release that arrives less than three weeks after the debut of iOS 26.5. As expected, this update focuses primarily on bug fixes, security improvements, and addressing early user-reported issues from the previous build.

While Apple’s official release notes are characteristically brief—describing it as “improvements and bug fixes”—reports from users and developers indicate several targeted refinements:

    • Fixes for occasional app crashes, especially in Messages, Safari, and Apple Intelligence features.
Battery life optimizations: Addresses lingering reports of higher-than-normal drain on certain iPhone models following the iOS 26.5 update.

This update addresses an issue for a small number of users that may prevent wired charging on iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models when the battery is nearly drained. – Apple Inc

    • Includes important security updates. As always, Apple recommends installing promptly.

    • Small refinements to the new Liquid Glass interface elements introduced in iOS 26, improving responsiveness in animations and control center interactions.

    • Resolves connectivity hiccups reported by some users after the prior update.

The iOS 26.5.1 update is available now over-the-air for all compatible devices:

    1. Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

    2. Download and install when prompted (approximately 400–600 MB depending on your device; size can vary slightly depending on whether a user is jumping directly from 26.5 or a slightly older build).

As with any update, it’s wise to back up your iPhone via iCloud or a computer beforehand.

No major new features are included — this is a classic maintenance release designed to smooth out the experience ahead of the anticipated iOS 26.6 update, which is already in early testing.

How to turn off AI features in Firefox on iOS and computer

Find out how to block all current as well as new AI features and AI chatbot in the Firefox web browser on your Mac, PC, iPhone, and Android phone.

Many apps and services are embracing AI, often times introducing features users didn’t ask for or don’t find useful.

Firefox has also added some AI features to its web browser, but it also gives you the option to easily turn them off. This is a thoughtful point, as anti-AI sentiment is growing rapidly, with even the Pope chiming in on it.

Additionally, providing an easy option to turn off the AI features that many users don’t want also helps distinguish Firefox from Chrome, the latter of which increasingly feels cluttered with AI tools that Google keeps shoving down our throats.

Block all AI features in Firefox or just specific ones

Mozilla Firefox gives you a single master switch to block all current and future generative AI features.

Aside from that, you can also choose to block just the specific AI features in the browser. So, for instance, if you don’t want to use the feature that shows a quick summary before opening a link, you can turn it off, while keeping the handy AI translations features still enabled.

Before you begin: Update your Firefox browser to the latest version, as this feature was added recently.

    On computer

    1) Open Firefox on your Mac or Windows PC and click the hamburger menu icon in the top right corner, followed by Settings. You can also copy and visit this link directly in Firefox: about:preferences#ai

    2) Select AI Controls from the left sidebar.

    3) Turn on the “Block AI enhancements” master switch at the top to disable all AI features in the browser.

    4) Or, click the menu option next to each allowed AI feature, and select Blocked.

    5) Alternatively, you can enable the “Block AI enhancements” switch to turn everything off, but selectively enable specific AI features you want to use.

    6) And as far as the Firefox AI chatbot in the sidebar is concerned, you can select a desired provider like Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Copilot, Le Chat Mistral, or just block it altogether.

    7) Finally, quit and reopen Firefox now or later at a convenient time for the new changes to fully come into effect.

    On iPhone

    1. Open the updated Firefox application on your iPhone and tap the three dots menu icon, followed by Settings.
    2. Tap AI Controls.
    3. Turn on Block AI Enhancements to nuke everything. Or turn it off for selected AI-powered features like Translations and Page Summaries.

    On Android phone

    1. Update the Firefox app from the Google Play Store and open it.
    2. Tap the three-dot menu icon, then select Settings.
    3. Tap AI controls.
    4. Enable the master switch for Block AI enhancements to turn off all AI features. Or switch off just the specific AI features, like voice search and translation.

If you ever change your mind and need to use these AI features again, just return to the AI controls settings pane and flip their switches back.
