In this quick step-by-step tutorial, we’ll show you how to have your iPhone SMS, MMS, RCS texts, and iMessages show up inside the Messages app on your Mac.

This feature, officially called Messages in iCloud, ensures that all your texts are available across all your Apple devices.

Turning on Messages in iCloud lets you access, reply to, and delete texts on your Mac, and these changes will also show up on your iPhone.

Additionally, with this feature enabled, you’ll get notifications for new SMS, MMS, and RCS texts right on your Mac (new iMessage notifications show up even if you don’t turn on Messages in iCloud but use the same iMessage/Apple account on your Mac and iPhone).

On top of this, with Messages in iCloud activated on your computer, you can autofill one-time codes in Safari on Mac, without touching your iPhone. It’s really effortless (when it works).

What you need to see iPhone messages on Mac

Messages in iCloud requires the following:

• Sign in to the same Apple Account on both devices
• Sufficient free iCloud space (messages stored in iCloud count towards your allocated storage space)
• Connect both devices to the internet
• Turn on the feature, as mentioned below

Sync iPhone messages to Mac

It requires enabling Messages in iCloud on both your iOS and macOS devices. We’ve explained everything in two simple steps.

Step 1: Turn on Messages in iCloud on iPhone

1) Open the iOS Settings app.

2) Tap your Apple Account name at the top.

3) Tap iCloud.

4) Tap Messages.

5) Turn on Use on this iPhone.

Now, your iPhone will start uploading all your messages to iCloud, which can take a long time, especially if you have thousands of texts and a slow internet.

Step 2: Turn on Messages in iCloud on Mac

1) Launch System Settings on your Mac.

2) Click your Apple Account name in the top left corner.

3) Select iCloud.

4) Click Messages.

5) Turn on the switch for Use on this Mac and click Done.

Your Mac will now download all messages your iPhone has uploaded to iCloud. Open the macOS Messages app to see them.

From now on, your iPhone messages will be uploaded to iCloud and downloaded to your Mac regularly in the background. For reliable sync, it’s best to leave your iPhone connected to Wi-Fi and charging overnight. If you don’t connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi regularly, you may notice that old messages have not synced to iCloud over cellular data. In this case, return to iOS Messages in iCloud settings and use the Sync Now button to do it manually.

Additionally, remember that most iCloud sync features, such as iCloud Photos and Messages in iCloud, are suspended temporarily when your iPhone and Mac are in Low Power Mode.

If you have multiple MacBooks and Mac desktops, repeat the above steps on all computers where you want to access your iPhone messages. However, I would not recommend using it on Macs you share with other people, such as your office computer or one in the guest room. If you must have access to iPhone messages on such computers, create a separate account and then turn it on there. Don’t let anyone else use this account or disclose its login passcode.

You can also use the same steps as above to access all your iPhone messages on another iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro, provided all devices are using the same Apple ID.

If your iMessages don’t show up on Mac

Follow these quick steps to ensure iMessage is active with the same accounts on your iPhone and Mac. This will ensure the same iMessage texts on both devices.

1. Open the macOS Messages app and click Messages > Settings in the top menu bar.
2. Go to the iMessage tab.
3. Make sure the Apple Account matches the one on your iPhone. Then, make sure the phone number and email addresses you see under the “You can be reached for messages at” are the same as those checked in your iPhone Settings > Apps > Messages > Send & Receive.

In this short post, we’ll tell you why you can’t subscribe to Spotify Premium from inside the official iOS app using Apple billing and how to eventually get the premium music experience on your iPhone or iPad.

Why can’t you subscribe to Spotify Premium in its iPhone app

Apple takes a cut from app developers for every app and subscription sale, In-App Purchase, and sale of digital goods and services (like movies, not physical products like Amazon) made inside an iOS application using Apple’s own App Store billing method.

Because of this, an app developer may have to share up to 30% of their sales amount with Apple as commission. After the first year (i.e., from the second year onward), Apple charges a 15% fee on subscription renewals.

Now, there is an App Store Small Business Program where Apple takes a reduced 15% commission, but this is only for new and existing businesses that do up to 1 million USD in annual sales. Given Spotify’s size, it definitely does not qualify as a small business.

Secondly, Spotify has to pay royalties to record labels, music publishers, and artists for the songs people stream on its platform. These licensing costs make up the majority of its revenue expenses.

Unlike Apple Music (owned by Apple) or Amazon Music (owned by Amazon), Spotify operates as a standalone music streaming company. It does not have a larger, highly profitable hardware or e-commerce business subsidizing it.

In a nutshell, Spotify already operates on thin margins, and paying App Store commissions would further reduce Spotify’s margins.

To avoid this, app developers who are already popular, such as Spotify and Netflix, don’t offer the option to buy a premium subscription plan right in their official mobile apps. This way, they don’t have to pay any commission to Apple. Spotify stopped letting new users sign up for a premium subscription via the Apple App Store around 2016.

About the price and external upgrade links in the Spotify app on iOS

The Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the European Union and recent court decisions (like the Epic Games case) in the United States relax the rules and allow app developers to display pricing information and include links to their own websites for purchases. Spotify has done this for users in the United States, as seen in the screenshots below.

However, in other markets, Spotify still has to follow old Apple App Store rules that prevent it from showing the price or providing a clear link to direct customers to its website to make the subscription payment.

Subscribe to Spotify Premium on iPhone and iPad

1) Open the Spotify app, go to the Premium tab, and check the benefits.

2) Once you’re ready to make the purchase, tap the trial or get buttons if visible (for US and EU users). If you’re from another region, visit spotify.com/premium in Safari or Chrome on your iPhone, iPad, or computer. If you see prices in a foreign currency, scroll to the bottom of the website, tap the current region name, and select your own.

3) Scroll down to see all the premium slabs: Individual, Student, Duo (for two accounts), Family (6 accounts), or some other region-specific plan (like a Lite plan in Asian countries). Select the plan you want, tap the buy button, and sign in using the same account you use in the iOS Spotify app.

4) Now, enter your address (it’s used to calculate tax), select a payment method (which varies based on the region), go through your subscription summary, and complete the purchase.

5) Once the payment and subscription are successful, force close and reopen the Spotify app on your iPhone, and you’ll see the premium benefits here. You can log in with this same account on more than one device across any platform.

Cancel Spotify Premium on iPhone or iPad

Since you have not (and cannot) subscribe to Spotify using Apple’s own App Store billing, you won’t find it under the Subscriptions field in iOS Settings > Apple Account.

When you want to cancel your Spotify subscription, log in to spotify.com in a web browser and complete the cancellation process.
