How to get back the calendar events lost after updating iPhone

Learn about all your options to restore missing calendar events on your iPhone or iPad if they disappeared after updating the software or for any other reason.

The missing calendar events problem on iPhone

The Apple Calendar app is working as expected. Then, your iPhone or iPad receives a new iOS update, such as iOS 26, iOS 18.6, or iOS 18.5, and you install the over-the-air software update. But then all calendar events disappear from your iPhone or iPad!

If you’ve faced something like this, here are the troubleshooting solutions to fix it. Note that these steps will also help if the calendar events disappeared out of the blue, even when you haven’t installed any new iOS updates recently.

    First, check iCloud Web

Since your events aren’t showing in the on-device iOS Calendar app, head to icloud.com/calendar/ and sign in with your Apple Account and password.

Now, switch to Week or Month view and browse through it. If you see all your events, that’s excellent news. This means your events are safe and secure in iCloud, but just not syncing to the device. The next step will help address this.

If events are not syncing to your iPhone…

iCloud calendar events not showing up in the iOS Calendar app can happen because of minor glitches or Apple Account syncing problems. Go through this quick list of solutions to fix this. Remember to wait a few minutes for all events to sync.

    • Force quit and reopen the Calendar app a few times.
    • Make sure your device is connected to a stable Wi-Fi or cellular data connection. Connect to a different Wi-Fi network if available. And turn off the VPN if you’re using one.
    • Restart your iPhone or iPad.
    • Go to iOS Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > See All > iCloud Calendar, and make sure “Use on this iPhone” is enabled.

In case you’ve done everything above, but the calendar events still don’t show in the app, try these two things:

    • Go to Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > See All > iCloud Calendar and turn off “Use on this iPhone.” Choose “Delete from my iPhone” (don’t worry, as iCloud events will sync back). Now, restart your iPhone, and turn “Use on this iPhone” back on. Wait a few minutes for everything to sync.
    • If the above tip didn’t work, sign out of your Apple Account and sign back in.

Deleting and re-syncing iCloud Calendar events on iPhone

If old events aren’t showing on iPhone…

This is an easy fix. Simply, go to iOS Settings > Apps > Calendar > Sync, and set it to All Events. This will instruct the app to fetch and show all your events, not just those that are a few weeks or months old.

    Restore iCloud Calendars

Unlike the Photos, Notes, Messages, and Files apps, the Apple Calendar app doesn’t have a ‘Recently Deleted’ section to hold onto the deleted events for the next 30 to 40 days. But there is a ‘Restore’ option on iCloud Web that lets you recover deleted events. Here’s how to use that:

    1) Visit icloud.com/recovery/ and sign in with your Apple Account.

    2) Click Restore Calendars.

    3) Click the ‘Restore‘ button next to a previous archive and confirm.

Click Restore next to an archive

Once it completes, your iCloud Calendar app will have all the events from that particular day. Any new events you may have added will disappear. Give your iPhone a few minutes to sync the changes. Furthermore, check the Mail app for an email from Apple, which highlights these two important points:

If you had shared calendars or reminders, you will need to share them again or ask their owners to share them.

If you had scheduled events, they will be canceled and recreated, and invitations reissued. The scheduled event invitees will first see a cancellation and then a new invitation.

Restore device backups for offline calendars

If you were not saving the calendar events to iCloud or another cloud account, such as Gmail or Outlook, they were saved locally to the device. The major iOS bug or system glitch may have deleted them. In this case, getting back your events seems unlikely. But try these tips for a miracle to happen:

In case the above three tips didn’t work, you can try restoring a previous device backup (if you have one). But it’s a lengthy process, that involves erasing your device completely and then restoring an older computer or iCloud backup.
