How to see all your ID card photos in one place on iPhone

Find out how to view photos of all your identity cards, passport, driving license, and other similar identity documents in one place in the iPhone Photos app on iOS 27.

The iPhone Photos app in iOS 27 gets a new ‘Identity Documents‘ category that puts pictures of all your identity cards in one convenient place. This new option joins the existing ‘Documents‘ category, which bundles photos of all documents in one place.

If you keep photos of your identity cards on your iPhone, you’ll be happy to know that the ‘Identity Documents’ section makes it easier to find them when needed. You no longer have to scroll endlessly through your photo library and fixate your eyes on the fast-moving screen to locate an ID card image.

Important: Apple scans your photos locally to find and surface all identity cards in one place. But it’s not perfect and can get things wrong. For instance, it bundles photos of my bank cheque, a screenshot of a successful payment, and even sachets of mouth freshener and oxygen absorber as identity documents.

Of course, this works only if you have already taken photos or scanned images of your ID cards and such.

1) Update your iPhone to iOS 27 (it’s currently in beta).

2) Open the Photos app and go to the Collections tab.

3) Scroll left until you find the new ‘Identity Documents‘ category and tap it. You can also tap the Utilities heading to see all categories in a convenient list. You should see all photos of your identity cards here.

If you have some ID card photos but they don’t appear in the “Identity Documents” section, it means your iPhone hasn’t finished scanning and indexing them. Plug your phone into a charger overnight for one or a few days, and it should finish the scan.

Make these photos a bit quicker to find

You might have noticed that it takes a few swipes to get to the ‘Identity Documents’ category. To make it a bit easier to access, you can show it at the top of the Utilities section by following these steps:

1) Open the iOS 27 Photos app, go to the Collections tab, and tap Utilities.

2) Tap the Edit button at the top.

3) Touch the hamburger icon next to ‘Identity Documents’ and drag it all the way to the top or somewhere near it. Then, tap the checkmark icon to save the new changes.

4) Tap the back button (<) to return to the previous screen, and you'll find the Identity Documents section easily visible in the Collections tab.

5) You can even tap Reorder at the bottom of the Collections tab and use the hamburger icon next to ‘Utilities’ to drag it to the top of the screen.

Aside from that, you can assign 1 to 5 stars to your photos and quickly use the star rating filter to see them. This is also a new iOS 27 feature.
