How to stop your iPhone from changing the wallpaper automatically
Turn off the photo shuffle feature and unlink a Lock Screen from Focus if your iPhone or iPad’s wallpaper changes automatically and you don’t want that to happen.
The iPhone wallpaper is not supposed to change unless:
- You use the photo shuffle wallpaper
- You use a built-in dynamic wallpaper, such as Weather, that’s supposed to change throughout the day
- A Focus mode activates that has a Lock Screen or Home Screen linked to it
- Glitches or bugs in the system
If you’d like to keep seeing just one picture as your iPhone or iPad wallpaper, go through the five tips below.
Don’t use the Photo Shuffle feature
The Photo Shuffle wallpaper in iPhone Settings > Wallpaper > Add New Wallpaper is supposed to use different pictures as your Lock Screen and Home Screen background, so you have something distinct to look at regular intervals.
You or someone with access to your iOS device may have set it up. To address this, simply use another wallpaper.
- Open the Photos app, tap a picture, and then tap the share button.
- Select Use as Wallpaper and tap Add.
Don’t use a dynamic wallpaper
When you go to iOS Settings > Wallpaper > Add New Wallpaper, you’ll see some wallpaper options, such as Live Weather and Astronomy, that automatically change to show the relevant content. Since you want a non-changing background, just select an option other than these as your wallpaper.
Delink Lock Screen and Home Screen from a Focus
You can link a specific Lock Screen, Home Screen, and Apple Watch face to a particular Focus. As an example, you can link your Work Focus to a Lock Screen wallpaper of your kids. And your Fitness Focus to a Lock Screen that has a motivational quote.
After this, when that Focus mode activates (either manually or automatically), your iPhone’s Lock Screen and/or Home Screen will also change. Follow these steps to prevent this:
- Open the Settings app, tap Focus, and select a Focus you use.
- If you see a Lock Screen and Home Screen linked to this Focus under the Customize Screens heading, tap the minus button (-) to delink it.
From now on, your iPhone wallpaper won’t change when this Focus activates. If you don’t want this Focus to activate automatically, turn off or delete all automatic activation options from under the “Set a Schedule” heading.
Other things to consider
- Don’t delete the picture you use as the wallpaper
- Restart your iPhone or iPad periodically
- Update to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS
- If the problem continues, reset all device settings
