How to stop seeing the user profile selector screen on Apple TV

Apple TV shows the user profile selector screen every time you power it on or wake it up from a long sleep. If you find this an extra unnecessary step, turn off the “Choose Profile On Wake” option in tvOS 26 settings, as explained below.

To reiterate, when you power on or wake up your Apple TV, you’ll see a screen with circular account/profile pictures, asking you to select who is watching. This setup is similar to how you can select from various user accounts added to your Mac or multiple watching profiles on streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video.

The accounts you see here are your main default account (the one you used during Apple TV setup), the accounts of people added to your Apple TV (such as your spouse or roommate), and other suggested profiles for individuals who are a part of your Apple Family Sharing setup.

Even if you don’t have a second user set up on your Apple TV, tvOS will still display this screen, allowing you to select your profile, along with a plus button to add additional accounts (such as those of your spouse or kids) to your Apple TV.

In case you don’t like this full-screen account picker interface and want to jump right into your apps, music, movies, and TV shows, turning it off is easy. Just remember that even with this feature turned off, you can still go to tvOS Control Center and switch to a different profile just as easily.

Stop seeing the profile picker screen on Apple TV

1. Open the Settings app on your Apple TV running the latest version of tvOS 26.
2. Select Profiles and Accounts.
3. Turn off Choose Profile On Wake. Going forward, tvOS will boot you (i.e., the current profile) right to the Home Screen, without asking you to select a profile first.

If you want to see the screen asking you to select an added profile but just not the suggested profiles, you can change “Suggested Profiles” to “Hide” in tvOS Settings. Note that suggested profiles are usually your family members added to your Apple Family Sharing, but whose accounts you haven’t added to your Apple TV.
