Messages Suggestions are back in iOS 27.2, and early testing says they finally know when to stay quiet

Apple is restoring Messages Suggestions in the iOS 27.2 beta, bringing back a conversation shortcut that disappeared shortly before the public launch of iOS 27.

Suggestions are one-tap action buttons that appear under a message when the conversation points to a clear next step. Apple has described them as context-based prompts that can create a reminder or a note, add a mentioned event to the calendar, or help surface photos by recognizing keywords, locations, and people in a user’s library. The buttons sit beneath the relevant message rather than opening a separate AI panel.

The feature ran through the iOS 27 beta this summer, then was pulled before the fall release. Apple said at the time that it, along with another delayed capability, would arrive in a future software update.

Reporting from Ryan Christoffel at 9to5Mac says Suggestions are now back in the iOS 27.2 beta, with a change that may explain the delay. In his summer testing, the buttons often worked as expected, but they also showed up when a message did not clearly call for a note, reminder, or calendar entry. In the 27.2 beta, he has seen fewer suggestions, and when one appears the reason is obvious from the thread.

Christoffel, who called Suggestions one of his favorite AI additions in the earlier beta because it did not feel like AI, wrote that he hopes the tighter version makes the shipping release of iOS 27.2, expected in the coming weeks. Whether the reduced frequency holds for other users will only be clear once the beta is more widely tested and the update ships.
