How to fix incorrect album art in iOS 26 Music app

Go through these quick tips if the album art (also called cover image) of some songs or albums is missing or incorrect in the Music app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 26.

But before you go ahead, please remember that the same song may be available more than once on Apple Music or in your local computer library with different artwork. And the music publisher may change the artwork at will, with those changes being pushed automatically to your device.

However, if the album art is missing or completely different and irrelevant, then the steps below will help fix the problem and restore the original cover image.

Connect to the Internet

If the album art for a song from Apple Music is incorrect, connect your iPhone or iPad to Wi-Fi, and it should be fixed automatically. While you’re at it, also force quit and reopen the Music app a couple of times.

Force restart your iPhone or iPad

Temporary software glitches may be the cause of missing or incorrect cover images in some or all songs in the iOS Music app. A simple restart or force restart should help.

Remove the song from the library and download it again

This is one of the most effective solutions that can help if the album art is missing for just one or a few tracks.

  1. Open the iOS Music app and find the track with the wrong album art.
  2. Touch and hold the track and tap Share > Copy to copy the link to the clipboard. Then, paste it into the Notes app (this will help you re-download the exact song in Step 5 below).
  3. Touch and hold the same track again and delete it from the library.
  4. Repeat the above steps for other songs with incorrect album art. Then, restart your iPhone.
  5. Open the Notes app and tap the saved link to open the song page in the Music app and re-download it. This time, it should have the correct album art.

Update to the latest version of iOS

In case your device is running an older version of the operating system, go to Settings > General > Software Update and install the most recent build available for your iPhone or iPad.

Turn Sync Library off and back on

Sync Library (formerly iCloud Music Library) allows you to save Apple Music tracks to your personal library, download them, and have a uniform library across all your devices.

Follow these steps to turn it off and back on to re-sync all your files with their correct cover images. Just remember that this will remove all your offline songs, and you’ll have to re-download them.

  1. Open the Settings app, tap Apps from the bottom, and select Music from the list of applications.
  2. Turn off Sync Library.
  3. Restart your iPhone.
  4. Return to Music app settings and turn Sync Library back on.
  5. Open the Music app and wait for all songs to sync. The tracks should no longer have incorrect album images.

Delete the Music app and add it again

Even though the Music app is preinstalled on all iPhones and iPads, you can delete it like any other app to fix issues. But note that this will also remove all the downloaded songs, and you’ll have to download them again.

  1. Touch and hold the Music app icon on the Home Screen and delete it.
  2. Restart your iPhone.
  3. Download the Music app again from the App Store.

Re-sync the music from your computer

In case the album art of songs you have synced from your Mac or Windows PC is incorrect, re-syncing them should help.

  1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to the same Mac or PC using which you synced the songs.
  2. Open Finder on Mac or the Apple Devices app on Windows PC and select the iOS device.
  3. Go to the Music tab, uncheck the box for “Sync music onto iPhone” and click Apply.
  4. Disconnect and restart your iPhone.
  5. Reconnect the phone to the same computer, return to the Music tab, check the box for “Sync music onto iPhone,” and click Apply.
