Apple adds M4 MacBook Air to Certified Refurbished website for a slightly discounted price

Just yesterday, Apple added the black titanium Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the higher-end M4 Max and M3 Ultra chip-equipped Mac Studio desktop computers to its Certified Refurbished website, giving consumers a chance to save money on new-to-them Apple tech while still carrying the same return window and AppleCare warranty opportunities as buying entirely new devices through the company.

Today, Apple expanded its Certified Refurbished offerings once more, this time adding the M4 chip-equipped MacBook Air to the site.

So, what can you expect to save buying a Certified Refurbished M4 chip-equipped MacBook Air from Apple’s Certified Refurbished website? It seems to start at $849 for the base model with the 10-core CPU and 8-core GPU with 16GB of memory and a 256GB solid state drive, down from the original retail price of $999.

Obviously, there are more expensive options available, but it really starts to beg the question about whether you should just consider investing new as you get higher up on the scale.

For what it’s worth, Apple’s Certified Refurbished sales are often well worth the savings. Apple typically replaces the outside case on these machines to make them look brand new, and anything that may have been damaged by the original owner is also replaced. Apple vigorously tests each machine before packing it into a blank white retail box.

It’s also worth mentioning that sometimes you can find sales on brand new devices that compete with these prices right from third-party retail sources such as Amazon or Best Buy, so it’s definitely worth shopping around.

What’s more is that even Apple’s Certified Refurbished machines come with the standard 14-day return window for any kind of buyer’s remorse, whether the item just isn’t what the buyer wanted, or it doesn’t perform up to snuff. For other problems, a 1-year AppleCare warranty is provided by default at no cost, while users can choose to purchase extended coverage if they so wish to.

These notebooks are great for everyday computing, such as tasks performed by students and couch potatoes alike. Their slim stature combined with great battery life make them a wonderful portable companion. While they’re certainly capable of heavier workloads, such as photo editing and video editing, if that’s going to be your primary use of the machine, then we might consider a MacBook Pro instead.
