Apple Intelligence will finally expand to non-English languages in April
Apple Intelligence will finally expand beyond English-speaking countries and pick up support for other languages via a software update coming in April, likely iOS 18.4.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has officially confirmed on a recent earnings call with analysts and investors that Apple Intelligence will gain support for French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and simplified Chinese in April. He added that the same update will enable localized English support for folks in India and Singapore.
This will be the first time Apple Intelligence is available in non-English-speaking regions in Asia and the European Union, allowing iPhone, iPad, and Mac owners to use the features in their own language. iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4 should bring additional Apple Intelligence improvements, like smarter Siri.
Apple Intelligence will speak eight new languages in April
Apple has already confirmed that the countries above will get Apple Intelligence following the feature’s September 2024 debut alongside iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1. However, the initial announcement only said Apple Intelligence would learn how to speak more languages “over the course of the next “ear.”
Apple Intelligence was US English only at lunch. Since then, it has added language support for other English-speaking regions, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Apple Intelligence is currently limited to these English-speaking regions: the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. Cook suggested that the lack of Apple Intelligence in some regions impacted iPhone sales, telling CNBC that the countries where Apple Intelligence is available captured stronger iPhone 16 sales than those without it.
“During the December quarter, “we saw that in markets where we had rolled out Apple Intelligence, that the year-over-year performance on the iPhone 16 family was stronger than those markets where we had not rolled out Apple intelligence,” he said.
