Apple has scheduled a new activity challenge for Apple Watch owners that will appear in the Fitness app on June 5, which is Global Running Day.

You can complete this challenge by logging a running workout of at least five kilometers on June 5 using the Workout app or any third-party app that writes data to the Health database. Winning this challenge will earn you a virtual medal in the Fitness app, along with animated stickers to use on iMessage and FaceTime.

How to win Apple’s Global Running Day fitness challenge

“Hit the road, trail, track or tread for Global Running Day,” it reads. “Record a running workout and go at least 5 km on June 5 to earn this special badge.”

Global Running Day is observed globally, so this challenge is open to all Apple Watch owners who will receive a push notification 24 hours before the event starts.

Apple holds these virtual activity challenges every now and then to celebrate various occasions. It all has to do with motivating couch potatoes to get up and move.

This is the third fitness challenge Apple issued in 2024, following the Heart Month challenge on Valentine’s Day in February and the World Meditation Day challenge in May. This also marks the first time the iPhone maker has hosted activity challenges for Global Running Day and World Meditation Day.

Two new events with new medals to win

Formerly known as National Running Day, Global Running Day celebrates the sport of running. It is observed each year on the first Wednesday of June.

Global Running Day was conceived in the United States, with the first event held in 2009. People from all across the world who plan on participating in Global Running Day can submit their names via the official website.
