“Let Loose” could be a very short Apple keynote with a runtime of just 35 minutes

A keynote livestream for the upcoming May 7 “Let Loose” iPad + Apple Pencil event could be just 35 minutes long, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has it.

Mark Gurman writes in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg that the “Let Loose” keynote will have a runtime of “around 35 minutes.”

So either this will be a very tightly packed keynote that will race from one segment to another or there isn’t much new to unveil aside from new iPads to begin with.

Instead of the usual 90-minute video presentation with multiple executives presenting and Tim Cook acting as an MC, it looks like we’re in for an incredibly short half-hour keynote (reserve five minutes for the intro and closing credits).

Why Apple won’t unveil M4 at the “Let Loose” event

We can now infer Gurman’s claim that the OLED iPad Pros will debut Apple’s M4 chip is likely wrong. Even if Apple wanted to launch the M4 while the M3 hasn’t yet finished rolling out, it would need about half an hour to enthuse about its advances.

This isn’t the first time Apple has experimented with various keynote times. The upcoming “Let Loose” event will start at 7am PT / 10am ET, and the October 2023 “Scary Fast” event was appropriately held in the afternoon at 5pm PT / 8pm ET instead of the usual 10am PT / 1pm ET schedule for Apple keynotes.

New iPad Pros and Apple Pencil are coming

The first OLED iPad Pros, a new 12.9-inch iPad Air, a fourth-generation Apple Pencil, possible new mid-cycle iPhone color and the last batch of refreshed FineWoven accessories are all thought to be announced at the event.

Like all Apple keynotes since the pandemic, this will be an online-only event with a pre-taped keynote broadcast live. You can watch the “Let Loose” keynote on any device via Apple’s website, on YouTube and in its TV app.
