There will be no stickers in the box when you purchase your next Apple gadget, as the company wants to make all its packaging plastic-free.

9to5Mac has learned that the latest iPad Pro and iPad Air unveiled at Apple’s “Let Loose” event will ship without any stickers in the box.

The site saw a copy of a memo that Apple distributed to its retail teams in which the company announced the move. It confirms there’ll be no stickers in the boxes for the new iPad Pro and iPad Air to make the packaging completely plastic-free. Instead, people who can’t live without an Apple sticker can get one at an Apple store.

Apple eliminates stickers from packaging

From the report:

Apple Stores are receiving shipments with a limited quantity of Apple logo stickers that can be distributed to customers who buy a new iPad Pro or iPad Air, but only upon request. So, if you buy an iPad Pro or iPad Air from an Apple Store, you can request an Apple sticker at the time of purchase. When Apple stores run out of their supply of stickers, they can order more from Apple.

You’ll need to buy your sticker directly from a brick-and-mortar Apple store because the company won’t be supplying these to retailers like Amazon and Best Buy. A pair of stickers featuring the Apple logo were included in boxes for what seems like ages now, sometimes color-matched to the device they shipped with.
People would generally slap them on car bumpers to proudly telegraph to the world that they use Apple products as an effective way of declaring their faith in the company. This was a big deal during the Wintel hegemony and Apple’s downturn, especially after Steve Jobs was fired from the company he co-founded.

Apple no loner needs free advertising

But Apple is no longer a beleaguered company, meaning the stickers, over time, lost their purpose and no longer provide Apple with free advertising, if you will.

Tim Cook & Co. want to eliminate Apple’s carbon footprint entirely by 2030. Removing plastics from these boxes is essential to eco-friendly packaging, and killing stickers inches Apple closer to that goal.

The company stopped using outer plastic wrap for iPhone boxes in 2022 and did the same for boxes used to send repaired devices to customers.
