  • Parler is the Latest Social Media Darling

    Reviewed by Jimbo

Connecting with people is incredibly easy thanks to social media apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Hangouts, Instagram, and many more that are less popular.

So how does a social media app actually get popular enough that it’s a go-to app for those looking to hang out and chat with like-minded individuals who share your interests? Afterall, what good is a social media app if those you want to connect with aren’t using it?

This is what you might call a “chicken and egg” problem and cracking it is not easy or inevitable.

Parler is a well-designed and easy-to-use app that makes connecting with those you know, as well as new like-minded people, quick and simple.

However it did it, Parler is on the way to reach escape velocity to become a verifiable winner.

    Concept and Functionality:

Signing up for Parler, a free app by Parler, LLC, is incredibly easy – all you need is an email address and a phone number. We were a bit disappointed to see that a phone number was required, but if you touch the ? next to the phone number field, Parler explains that they only use your number to authenticate your account and add a second layer of security.

An interesting aspect of Parler is that it actually bills itself as a News app and, in fact, it’s rated #1 in the News category of the App Store.

The app description says that it’s a “non-biased, free speech social media focused on protecting user’s rights”. We’re not sure that unrestricted commentary is the same a “news” but it does give people a place to sound off.

Getting up and running with Parler is easy. You’re not grilled with questions so you can be matched with the “perfect” people or topics to follow; just select any people or hashtags that you find interesting and you’ll be able to see their comments and share in the conversation.

    Features:

    Parler iPhone App

Parler makes it easy to see what topics are top-of-mind with its users. You can opt to see what “Partners” or “Affiliates” are posting just by tapping those headings.

By tapping the envelope icon in the upper right or swiping in from the right you access a “Private Messages” panel.

Once you do post something, it’s quite easy to add a photo to your comment. Unfortunately while adding a gif is easy, changing your mind is less so. If you select “Giphy” to add a gif to your comment and then decide not to use one, the “back” button doesn’t work, at least on an iPhone X, so you have to kill the app and start over.

If you tap on the magnifying glass on the right side of the bottom panel, you’ll see users or hashtags that you can follow.

Right now it seems much of the commentary is somewhat USA-political centric and conservative within that, even though one of the hashtags you can follow is #ParlerUK.

Even under #Apple you’ll see comments about the politics of tech companies, but that seems to be one of the big appealing aspects of Parler, that you can sound off about anything you like, or don’t like.

We were disappointed to see many users post completely unrelated ideological messages in hashtags so, for example, under the #bitcoin you see comments about Covid-19, Jesus Saves and a variety of fringe political rants.

    Value:

Parler is available to download for free from the App Store.

Overall, we highly recommend Parler if you’re looking to chat with new people and talk about things you have in common.

It’s a great app that definitely has freedom of speech (within reasonable limits) in mind, and, in addition to being a top news app, will no doubt be a top social networking app very soon.

Parler requires iOS 10.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

  • Your iPhone is Awesome, Keep it That Way

The 3 Best Apps For A Healthy iPhone
    TheiPhoneAppReview.com

We don’t have to tell you that your iPhone is an incredible piece of hardware and software ingenuity. When you first got it and turned it on it was at its peak of capability.

Of course as time went on you used it every day, recharged it every night, loaded and deleted apps, as well as loaded and didn’t delete apps that you haven’t used in a long time, and will very likely never use again, and maybe even dropped it a few times.

There’s not much to be done for any physical scratches and scuffs, although if the screen needs replacing that can be relatively easily done. But what about performance issues?

We here at TheiPhoneAppReview.com have extremely close relationships with out idevices, probably to an unhealthy level, but let’s not get into that, and we are always looking for the best ways to keep them in tip-top shape.

You can do a lot to maintain the performance of your iPhone and iPad, recover functionality that may be on the fritz, and otherwise take the best care possible to make sure it works as it should.

Here are the absolute 3 best iPhone apps that will help you maintain your iPhone for many days and years to come.

TestX: protection, diagnostics – (Free) – System checker & analyzer

The TestX app is a star player in the must-have category of diagnostics for anyone who is serious about maintaining the proper functioning of their iPhone.

If you’ve ever wanted to know more about the various sensors and capabilities of your device, either as a method of improving it, or just because you’re curious about it all, this is a great app to get you started on the right track.

Whether you’ve been neglecting your iPhone for years without any specific complaint, or something just stopped working the way it always had, this app will help you get to the bottom of what’s going on.

The diagnostic tests are extremely simple to run. You can opt for a Quick Scan or a Full Scan (we recommend the later if you haven’t done one before) or select specific tests to exercise different capabilities of your phone.

One of the best features of this app is that with one tap you can create a full report of the results for the tests that you’ve run along with a full description of your iPhone.

This is not only very handy for the owner, of course, but it can be a great way to verify the quality of your phone when you are trying to sell it so you can upgrade to the newest one available.

TestM – Check phone & Report – (Free) – Test, Buy & Sell Phones

It’s no secret that we’re all quite protective of our devices. Let’s face it, they do a lot for us and we depend on them for an ever increasing part of our day-to-day lives.

So what do you do when you’re ready for the newest model and you want to sell the one you have but the device seems sluggish, some part of it just doesn’t work right?

Maybe you just want the peace of mind knowing that when you do see it, it passed a thorough battery of tests with flying colors.

TestM’s focus is all about selling your iPhone and, in preparation for that, either verifying it’s in great shape or helping you get it to a condition that will net you the most return.

In fact, “Find Repair Shops” is one option in the left side pop out menu.

It’s simple to use and includes a broad array of tests that you can run individually or as a group.

Like TestX it will also create a report that includes a full description of your iPhone.

At the bottom of the report result screen there’s also a button to share the report with your buyer making the whole process quite simple and easy.

One of the best things about this app is that it makes it very easy to find a repair shop.

If it doesn’t find one right around you, you can do a search for a city nearby.

Phone Doctor Plus – (Free) – Test, monitor, trade-in

For anyone who wants to see at a glance with just one tap what the status of your iPhone is, you can’t do better than Phone Doctor Plus.

Once you tap “Status” you’ll see six categories with a summary status for each.

You can then tap a category to drill down to more specific info.

There is lots to see and you will definitely get great info about your phone, it’s detailed specifications, as well as info about all of its capabilities.

At some points, however, you’re left guessing. For example, if you drill down into “CPU”, you see how much of your total cpu capacity is currently in use, and you also get a readout for all the cores on any multi-core iPhone.

But it also says “not done yet” for both single-core and multi-core while showing results. So what exactly isn’t done yet?

The distinguishing feature of this app is that it will let you login to get a trade-in price for your iPhone.

We can’t attest to whether or not it’s a fair offer, but at least it’s one data point as you try to determine what a good price is and whether or not you really want to sell it.
