Apple releases tvOS 26.5, visionOS 26.5, and HomePod 26.5

Apple releases tvOS 26.5, visionOS 26.5, and HomePod 26.5

Tim Cook teases a 'big week ahead' starting Monday

Apple just dropped a fresh round of updates for its less headline-grabbing platforms: tvOS 26.5, visionOS 26.5, and HomePod software 26.5. If you’re hoping for flashy new features, you might want to temper your expectations — this one is all about refinement.

According to Apple’s release notes, these updates contain “performance and stability improvements.” That’s code for: no major user-facing changes. The 26.5 betas have been out for over a month, and even the most dedicated testers haven’t uncovered significant additions. Apple is clearly saving its creative energy for the next major cycle.

Even without new bells and whistles, these releases are worth installing. Minor updates like this often include important security patches, bug fixes, and under-the-hood optimizations that keep your devices running smoothly — especially critical for always-on hardware like Apple TV and HomePod.

• owners get a more stable experience for streaming, gaming, and AirPlay.

• users benefit from better reliability in what remains Apple’s most ambitious (and demanding) platform.

• and users should see improved audio performance, Siri responsiveness, and smart home stability.

Apple continues to stress the importance of keeping all your devices updated for the best security and compatibility across the ecosystem.

The real excitement is already building for tvOS 27, visionOS 27, and the next HomePod update. Apple will unveil those features at WWDC 2026 next month (starting June 8th). If history is any guide, we’ll see bigger leaps in Apple Intelligence integration, spatial computing, and smarter home entertainment experiences.

Today’s 26.5 updates are the software equivalent of a mid-season tune-up—nothing revolutionary, but essential maintenance that keeps the machine running at peak performance. Go ahead and update when you’re prompted.

How to turn off iPhone Low Power Mode when you put it to charge

In this brief step-by-step tutorial, we show you how to set your iPhone or iPad to automatically disable Low Power Mode the moment you plug it into charging.

Low Power Mode turns off or limits several iOS features to save battery, so you can squeeze more use time from the remaining charge. The most notable changes during Low Power Mode are the screen refresh rate being limited to just 60Hz, suspended iCloud Photos updates, disabled background updates and downloads, and overall system slowness.

Now, your iPhone or iPad automatically turns off Low Power Mode when you plug it into charging and the battery level reaches 80%.

But what if you don’t want to wait about an hour for it to auto turn off Low Power Mode? Maybe you want background updates, a higher refresh rate, and system fluidness the moment you plug the device into a charger.

Thankfully, the built-in Apple Shortcuts app lets you configure exactly this, and we’ll show you how.

Turn off Low Power Mode when iPhone or iPad is plugged into a charger

1) Open the Apple Shortcuts app on your iOS device and tap Automation.

2) Tap New Automation or the plus button.

3) Select Charger from the list of automation conditions.

4) Leave ‘Is Connected‘ checked and ‘Is Disconnected’ unchecked. Then, select ‘Run Immediately‘ so this automation runs in the background without your approval, and tap Next.

5) Tap Create New Shortcut from the top.

6) Use the search bar to find and add the Low Power Mode action to your build.

7) Tap the ‘On’ placeholder to change it to ‘Off.’ Then, tap the checkmark icon to finish building your Low Power Mode automation.

Moving forward, this iPhone or iPad will turn off Low Power Mode whenever you plug it in to charge. You don’t have to worry about turning it off manually or waiting for it to auto-turn off after the battery reaches 80%.

If you change your mind and no longer need this automation, return to the Shortcuts app > Automation and swipe left on it to delete it.
