In this short post, we’ll tell you why you can’t subscribe to Spotify Premium from inside the official iOS app using Apple billing and how to eventually get the premium music experience on your iPhone or iPad.

Why can’t you subscribe to Spotify Premium in its iPhone app

Apple takes a cut from app developers for every app and subscription sale, In-App Purchase, and sale of digital goods and services (like movies, not physical products like Amazon) made inside an iOS application using Apple’s own App Store billing method.

Because of this, an app developer may have to share up to 30% of their sales amount with Apple as commission. After the first year (i.e., from the second year onward), Apple charges a 15% fee on subscription renewals.

Now, there is an App Store Small Business Program where Apple takes a reduced 15% commission, but this is only for new and existing businesses that do up to 1 million USD in annual sales. Given Spotify’s size, it definitely does not qualify as a small business.

Secondly, Spotify has to pay royalties to record labels, music publishers, and artists for the songs people stream on its platform. These licensing costs make up the majority of its revenue expenses.

Unlike Apple Music (owned by Apple) or Amazon Music (owned by Amazon), Spotify operates as a standalone music streaming company. It does not have a larger, highly profitable hardware or e-commerce business subsidizing it.

In a nutshell, Spotify already operates on thin margins, and paying App Store commissions would further reduce Spotify’s margins.

To avoid this, app developers who are already popular, such as Spotify and Netflix, don’t offer the option to buy a premium subscription plan right in their official mobile apps. This way, they don’t have to pay any commission to Apple. Spotify stopped letting new users sign up for a premium subscription via the Apple App Store around 2016.

About the price and external upgrade links in the Spotify app on iOS

The Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the European Union and recent court decisions (like the Epic Games case) in the United States relax the rules and allow app developers to display pricing information and include links to their own websites for purchases. Spotify has done this for users in the United States, as seen in the screenshots below.

However, in other markets, Spotify still has to follow old Apple App Store rules that prevent it from showing the price or providing a clear link to direct customers to its website to make the subscription payment.

Subscribe to Spotify Premium on iPhone and iPad

1) Open the Spotify app, go to the Premium tab, and check the benefits.

2) Once you’re ready to make the purchase, tap the trial or get buttons if visible (for US and EU users). If you’re from another region, visit spotify.com/premium in Safari or Chrome on your iPhone, iPad, or computer. If you see prices in a foreign currency, scroll to the bottom of the website, tap the current region name, and select your own.

3) Scroll down to see all the premium slabs: Individual, Student, Duo (for two accounts), Family (6 accounts), or some other region-specific plan (like a Lite plan in Asian countries). Select the plan you want, tap the buy button, and sign in using the same account you use in the iOS Spotify app.

4) Now, enter your address (it’s used to calculate tax), select a payment method (which varies based on the region), go through your subscription summary, and complete the purchase.

5) Once the payment and subscription are successful, force close and reopen the Spotify app on your iPhone, and you’ll see the premium benefits here. You can log in with this same account on more than one device across any platform.

Cancel Spotify Premium on iPhone or iPad

Since you have not (and cannot) subscribe to Spotify using Apple’s own App Store billing, you won’t find it under the Subscriptions field in iOS Settings > Apple Account.

When you want to cancel your Spotify subscription, log in to spotify.com in a web browser and complete the cancellation process.

In this quick beginner’s guide, we’ll show you how to save a PDF from a website in Safari, Google Chrome, and Firefox on your iPhone or iPad.

While this is a simple task, many new iPhone and iPad users struggle with it, which is why this post. Note that we are not talking about saving a Safari webpage as a PDF; we have a different tutorial for that.

Before you go further, remember that all the browsers mentioned here (Safari, Chrome, and Firefox) will save the PDF file in the Apple Files app.

Safari

Safari is the default web browser on all Apple devices. If you want to save a PDF from a webpage open in Safari to your iPhone or iPad, here are all the steps.

1) Open Safari and visit a website with a PDF. If the PDF opens directly in the browser (you’ll see its first page, and the rest), move to the next step. And if the webpage shows a Download or Save button, then tap that first.

2) Tap the three dots icon and select Share. You can also touch and hold the URL bar and select Share.

3) Make sure you see the ‘PDF Document‘ label under the file name, as shown in the screenshot below. Then, tap the Save to Files button. The iOS Files app interface will open. Use the back button (<) in the top-left corner to navigate to a location and folder. You can select from iCloud Drive (similar to Google Drive), On My iPhone (local storage), or third-party services added to the Files app.

4) Once you’re in a folder where you want to save the file, look at the ‘Save as‘ bar at the bottom. This is where you can change the PDF file name if needed and assign a Tag. Finally, tap the Save button.

5) To access this saved PDF, open the iOS Files app and go to the Recents tab. You can also tap Browse, then navigate to the iCloud Drive or On My iPhone folder where you saved the PDF in steps 3 and 4 above.

Once you get to the PDF, just tap to open it in the iOS 26 Preview app. You can also touch and hold the PDF thumbnail and select Quick Look to open it right in the Files app. Or, use the Get Info option to set a default app for viewing PDFs on this iPhone or iPad.

Important: If Safari doesn’t open the PDF but downloads it directly, then in that case, do one of the following:

• Go directly to your Safari Downloads folder in the iOS Files app.
• Tap the arrow icon in the URL bar, then tap Downloads. From here, tap the PDF to open it, then tap the share icon and select Save to Files.

Google Chrome

Many people who move from an Android phone or Windows PC to an iPhone or iPad often skip Safari and download Chrome straight away, since that’s what they have been using all this time. The good thing is that saving a PDF using Chrome is effortless, and here are the steps for that.

1) Open Google Chrome on your iPhone or iPad and visit the website from where you want to download the PDF. Tap the on-page ‘Download’ or ‘Save’ button if shown.

2) Once the PDF opens in Safari, you should see a download banner on the screen. Tap the DOWNLOAD button here. Once the download is complete, tap OPEN IN.

3) Select Open in downloads on the iOS Share Sheet, and it will take you to the Chrome folder in the Apple Files app, showing the downloaded PDF.

Alternatively, you can go to the Apple Files app > Browse > On My iPhone/iPad > Chrome to find the downloaded PDF there.

Firefox

The process for saving a PDF locally on your iPhone or iPad in Firefox is similar to that in Safari.

1) Open the PDF page in Firefox on your iPhone or iPad. Tap the Download button if needed.

2) Tap the share button, choose Save to Files, pick a folder in the Files app, and tap Save.

In some cases, tapping the Download button on a web page will start saving the file instantly. In this case:

• Go to the iOS Files app > Browse > On My iPhone/iPad > Firefox to find the downloaded PDF there.
• You can also tap the three dots menu button in Firefox and select Downloads to see the PDF. From here, swipe left on a PDF, tap Share, and choose Save to Files.
