How to turn off AI features in Firefox on iOS and computer

Find out how to block all current as well as new AI features and AI chatbot in the Firefox web browser on your Mac, PC, iPhone, and Android phone.

Many apps and services are embracing AI, often times introducing features users didn’t ask for or don’t find useful.

Firefox has also added some AI features to its web browser, but it also gives you the option to easily turn them off. This is a thoughtful point, as anti-AI sentiment is growing rapidly, with even the Pope chiming in on it.

Additionally, providing an easy option to turn off the AI features that many users don’t want also helps distinguish Firefox from Chrome, the latter of which increasingly feels cluttered with AI tools that Google keeps shoving down our throats.

Block all AI features in Firefox or just specific ones

Mozilla Firefox gives you a single master switch to block all current and future generative AI features.

Aside from that, you can also choose to block just the specific AI features in the browser. So, for instance, if you don’t want to use the feature that shows a quick summary before opening a link, you can turn it off, while keeping the handy AI translations features still enabled.

Before you begin: Update your Firefox browser to the latest version, as this feature was added recently.

On computer

1) Open Firefox on your Mac or Windows PC and click the hamburger menu icon in the top right corner, followed by Settings. You can also copy and visit this link directly in Firefox: about:preferences#ai

2) Select AI Controls from the left sidebar.

3) Turn on the “Block AI enhancements” master switch at the top to disable all AI features in the browser.

4) Or, click the menu option next to each allowed AI feature, and select Blocked.

5) Alternatively, you can enable the “Block AI enhancements” switch to turn everything off, but selectively enable specific AI features you want to use.

6) And as far as the Firefox AI chatbot in the sidebar is concerned, you can select a desired provider like Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Copilot, Le Chat Mistral, or just block it altogether.

7) Finally, quit and reopen Firefox now or later at a convenient time for the new changes to fully come into effect.

On iPhone

  1. Open the updated Firefox application on your iPhone and tap the three dots menu icon, followed by Settings.
  2. Tap AI Controls.
  3. Turn on Block AI Enhancements to nuke everything. Or turn it off for selected AI-powered features like Translations and Page Summaries.

On Android phone

  1. Update the Firefox app from the Google Play Store and open it.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu icon, then select Settings.
  3. Tap AI controls.
  4. Enable the master switch for Block AI enhancements to turn off all AI features. Or switch off just the specific AI features, like voice search and translation.

If you ever change your mind and need to use these AI features again, just return to the AI controls settings pane and flip their switches back.

Fix: Unable to access iCloud Photos in a web browser

Fix: Unable to access iCloud Photos in a web browser

You can access all your photos and videos stored in iCloud by visiting icloud.com/photos in Safari, Google Chrome, Firefox, or other web browsers. If this process fails, the following solutions will help you fix that.

Usually, the iCloud Photos web app may not work due to sign-in issues, temporary downtime, delayed Advanced Data Protection authentication, or browser issues. We’ll help you address them all.

Make sure you’re signing in with your correct Apple Account email address and password

If you don’t remember your Apple Account password, reset it quickly using your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Sign in manually using your Apple Account credentials

Safari on iPhone, iPad, and Mac lets you sign in to iCloud with Face ID or Touch ID. But if it fails for some reason or keeps you waiting on the sign-in page, click “Use a different Apple Account,” which will open the traditional sign-in page. Enter your Apple Account email address, password, and two-factor authentication code to sign in and access your iCloud Photos.

Use a different Apple Account when signing in to iCloud in web browser

Open a private/incognito browser window and try signing in there

In case accessing iCloud Photos in a normal window fails, try using a Safari Private window or Google Chrome’s Incognito window.

Later, clear all your browser history, cache, and other data, and you should be able to sign in to iCloud without issues, even in a regular, non-private browser window. This is an important step, so don’t overlook it.

Check Apple’s server status

Visit Apple’s System Status page and make sure Apple Account, iCloud Account & Sign In, iCloud Web Apps (iCloud.com), and Photos are available (i.e., they have a green dot before them). If there is downtime, you’ll have to wait anywhere from a few minutes to hours for Apple to implement a fix.

If you have Advanced Data Protection enabled

iCloud.com will not have access to some of your data, such as photos, if Advanced Data Protection, an additional privacy feature, is enabled.

When you try to access iCloud Photos in a web browser with Advanced Data Protection enabled, you’ll get an alert on your trusted Apple devices, like your iPhone, iPad, or even the same Mac where you’re trying to use iCloud web. Just attend to that notification and allow access.

Check the Notification on Your Devices to allow access to iCloud data on web

Here’s how it looks on iPhone (you only need to approve this request from one of your devices):

Shortly, iCloud Photos will load all your pictures and videos in the web browser.

If this fails:

  • Make sure you have a fast Internet connection.
  • Sign in to icloud.com/photos in another browser and attend to the Advanced Data Protection notification.
  • Turn off Advanced Data Protection in device settings on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, then retry. You can turn it back on later.
  • Try after a short while.
