Since its debut ten years ago in June of 2017, Apple’s iPhone has managed to move a total of 1.2 billion cumulative units globally, remaining the most popular smartphone brand in the world in terms of both unit sales and influence.

The milestone was shared in Apple’s earnings call with Wall Street investors and analyst yesterday, with Tim Cook saying that, “One decade after the initial iPhone launch, we have now passed 1.2 billion cumulative iPhones sold.”

Apple announced in July 2016 that cumulative iPhone sales had passed the one billion mark by that time, meaning the firm has managed to add 200 million new iPhone sales in the past year.

In the June quarter of this year, the Cupertino company sold 41 million handsets which brought in $24.8 billion in iPhone revenue, beating expectations.

Acknowledging “impressive” iPhone results, Cook said Apple saw especially strong demand at the high end, with iPhone 7 being its most popular iPhone. Sales of iPhone 7 Plus were up “dramatically” compared to iPhone 6s Plus in the June quarter of last year, he added.
