Crisis averted: Apple fixes the Finder icon and transparency in the Control Center

Apple has fixed the reversed Finder icon and transparency in the iPhone’s Control Center with the latest iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe betas released yesterday.

Not everyone is a fan of the new Liquid Glass design coming this fall to the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Vision Pro with Apple’s other “26” operating systems. Folks who installed the first developer beta of iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe 26 quickly noticed some questionable design choices that Apple has now fixed.

The Finder icon is now back to normal and no longer reversed. At the same time, the Control Center in the second betas of iOS 26, iPadOS 26 and macOS Tahoe 26 is now opaque instead of almost completely transparent like before.

Apple tweaks the Finder icon and the Control Center design

You could mitigate Control Center transparency by turning on the Reduce Transparency accessibility feature. Doing so replaces the hazy transparency effect with a solid background in many areas throughout the system, not just the Control Center. The solution wasn’t ideal, and now it’s no longer required as Apple listened to feedback from early beta testers who complained about this.

Apple also angered longtime Mac fans by flipping the Finder icon in the first beta of macOS Tahoe. Swapping the dark and light sides of the icon broke decades of Finder history. Apple has tweaked the design of the Finder logo throughout the years, but the dark side has always been on the left, and now macOS Tahoe beta 2 reinstates that design, as evidenced in the screenshot at the top of this post.

If you use these betas and find something you don’t like, maybe a stupid bug or a questionable design choice, send Apple feedback via apple.com/feedback or the Feedback Assistant app included with the betas. The more people complain about the same thing, the higher the chances Apple’s engineers will do something about it.
