CarPlay Ultra: Watch hands-on videos from Top Gear and Aston Martin
British automaker Aston Martin has shared a hands-on video demonstration showcasing Apple’s new CarPlay Ultra infotainment software in action
Top Gear’s YouTube channel shared a comprehensive video walkthrough, seen top of post, which showcases the different aspects of CarPlay Ultra in an Aston Martin DBX, such as setup, navigation, widgets, customization with themes, controlling vehicle functions and more. Apple unveiled CarPlay Ultra this morning.
On Aston Martin vehicles, CarPlay Ultra extends across both the central touchscreen and driver instrument cluster, offering many personalization options. “Apple CarPlay Ultra is a transformation in driver connectivity displaying key vehicle information and allowing users to control vehicle functions through a bespoke Aston Martin and CarPlay Ultra interface,” notes Aston Martin.

CarPlay Ultra integrates deeply with in-car systems like the radio, climate and seat control, and more to show real-time information on gauges in instrument clusters. Automakers can customize the CarPlay experience with themes to match their brand, and drivers can adjust these themes but changing the colors and wallpapers.
Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, was quoted as saying the following in the official CarPlay Ultra announcement:
iPhone users love CarPlay, and it has transformed how people connect with their vehicles. With CarPlay Ultra, together with automakers, we are reimagining the in-car experience, making it even more unified and consistent. This next generation of CarPlay gives drivers a smarter, safer way to use their iPhone in the car, while deeply integrating with the car’s systems and showcasing the unique look and feel of each automaker. We are excited to kick off the rollout of CarPlay Ultra with Aston Martin — and this is just the beginning, with more automakers on the way.
Apple hasn’t named car brands that will be implementing CarPlay Ultra aside from mentioning that Hyundai, Kia and Genesis as newly committed brands.
CarPlay Ultra is a premium version of CarPlay, which continues to be available and developed. Aston Martin is a launch partner for CarPlay Ultra. The company’s core model lineup in the United States and Canada is equipped with CarPlay Ultra, and a software update will expand to include vehicles globally in the next 12 months.
Existing Aston Martin vehicles in the United States and Canada equipped with the company’s next-generation infotainment system will gain CarPlay Ultra in the coming weeks through a software update available at local dealers.
