Meta removes Apple Intelligence from Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp

Apple Intelligence is no longer available inside of Meta’s most popular apps such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Threads.
The Brazilian blog Sorcerer Hat has spotted that the most useful Apple Intelligence feature, the Writing Tools, is no longer available to use on the Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Threads and Messenger mobile apps. The same goes for Genmoji, which is Apple’s tool for AI emoji creation. Instead, Meta is pushing its own AI chat bot integrated into these apps. It’s unclear when this change was made.
Apple’s developer documentation spells out in black and white that developers are permitted to block the use of the Apple Intelligence features in their apps. This excludes web apps; in other words, you can continue using the Writing Tools and other Apple Intelligence features when crafting posts on Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Threads, and Messenger in a web browser.

The Writing Tools is arguably the most useful set of AI features provided under the umbrella term Apple Intelligence. With the Writing Tools, you can proofread, rewrite, summarize and compose text in almost any text field in iOS. To use these features, touch a text field to bring up the bubble menu, then choose “Writing Tools.”
Meta and Apple are at odds when it comes to advertising, tracking and privacy. The Wall Street Journal said the companies discussed using Meta’s AI model to power some Apple Intelligence features with Meta’s AI models, like its multimodal Llama.
The company reportedly changed its mind over privacy concerns, signing an agreement instead with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT technology into Siri and the Writing Tools. The company could sign up other AI partners, like Google’s Gemini.
