The second-generation Apple Vision Pro headset is allegedly in mass production ahead of its rumored release sometime later in 2025.

MacRumors passes along a new report by the Chinese website IT Home, which learned ablout this tidbit from an unknown source. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Vision Pro 2 would enter mass production in the second half of 2025. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg also called for a Vision Pro successor this year.

If those reports are correct, Apple could release the device sometime in the fall, or closer toward the end of the year. The Vision Pro 2 is rumored to use Apple’s as-of-yet-unreleased M5 chip, but other hardware upgrades are possible as well.

The Vision Pro 2 parts that are currently being mass produced apparently include panels, housings, and electronics, with some Apple suppliers reportedly “rushing” to fulfill orders. The Information previously said that Vision Pro 2 would file as “an incremental update to the product with limited changes to its physical design.”

The iPhone maker may have stopped production of the first Vision Pro model last October due to slow sales and inventory build-up, The Information reported. The second-generation Vision Pro should be a true sequel to the original Vision Pro, which starts at $3500 in the United State; a more affordable Vision Pro with iPhone-class chips and lower-resolution displays isn’t expected before 2027.

Apple continues to invest in the Vision Pro, which it calls a spatial computer, but content is still lacking. On that front, Apple continues making immersive videos for viewing on the Vision Pro and recently published a new app, called Apple Immersive Video Utility, for managing Vision Pro videos on a Mac.

Apple has also been iterating on visionOS, the operating system powering the Vision Pro. For example, the latest visionOS 2.4 update brought the first Apple Intelligence features to the device, a dedicated app for browsing spatial content, improvements to the Guest User mode and other changes.
