macOS Sequoia 15.4 hides Apple Intelligence storage consumption

The upcoming macOS Sequoia 15.4 update will make it harder for Mac owners to see how much local storage space Apple Intelligence is taking up.
Apple used to divulge this information in the System Settings > General > Storage section after clicking the ⓘ (Info) button. This has changed in the second beta of macOS Sequoia 15.4, apparently due to technical reasons.
Nothing shady seems to be going on here; the latest iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 betas still include this feature in the Settings > General > iPhone Storage section.
macOS Sequoia 15.4: How to view Apple Intelligence storage consumption
iOS developer @b3lla_dev noted that the only way to reveal this information again is by turning off the System Integrity Protection (SIP) security feature, which helps protect your Mac from malicious software. The Apple Platform Security guide explains how to turn off SIP using Recovery Mode (most users shouldn’t do this).
Tim Hardwick, MacRumors:
Apple Intelligence utilizes something called the MobileAsset framework to manage and deliver its machine learning models and related assets to Apple devices. This framework dynamically downloads and updates the necessary components, ensuring that devices have access to the latest capabilities without requiring comprehensive system updates.
Apple Intelligence requires 7GB of storage space per device (iPhone, iPad, Mac) to store on-device AI models and other required assets. Apple has received feedback about this change, so it remains to be seen whether the company will make Apple Intelligence’s storage consumption easier to see when macOS 15.4 launches.
I guess it wasn’t a bug.

iOS 18.4 displays Apple Intelligence storage consumption
To see how much storage space Apple Intelligence is taking up on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and hit the “iOS” option. You’ll see a breakdown of storage consumption between iOS and Apple Intelligence.
I hope Apple reverts this change. Seeing how much storage space your Apple silicon Mac has lost to Apple Intelligence is a valuable data point. The most straightforward explanation is that Apple doesn’t want Mac owners to be aware of the storage requirement and potentially turn off Apple Intelligence. But that doesn’t make much sense because the same information is available on the iPhone and iPad.
The company is scheduled to release macOS Sequoia 15.4 in early April alongside iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and other software updates.
