Do you really need an Apple One subscription to use the new Apple Invites app and browse the upcoming Apple News+ Food section?

The Apple One bundles include paid iCloud storage along with multiple Apple services for a lower price than their combined individual costs. The flagship Apple One Premier tier includes iCloud+ with 2TB of storage, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+ and Apple Fitness+ in exchange for $37.95/month.

However, some folks are wondering whether an Apple One subscription is required to use the new Invites app or enjoy the upcoming Apple News+ Food section.

You only need iCloud+ to use Apple Invites

MacRumors says the iPhone maker added Apple Invites and Apple News+ Food to the Apple One Premier bundle over the last month. However, I don’t see the new perks on the Apple One page. Apple also doesn’t mention it in its support document listing the benefits included in each Apple One tier. I don’t see Invites and News+ Food when browsing the Apple One bundles in the Settings app either.

The article is wrong. The new Apple Invites app, released last month, is accessible to everyone with an iCloud+ subscription. You’re an iCloud+ subscriber if you’re paying for iCloud storage ($1/month or higher). So, while iCloud+ is actually required to create invitations in the Invites app (not required to RSVP), you don’t need an Apple One subscription to use Apple Invites if you already have iCloud+.

If you don’t have iCloud+ but have an Apple One subscription, you can use Invites across all tiers—Individual ($20/month), Family ($26/month) and Premier ($38/month)—because each one includes paid iCloud storage.

What is Apple News+ Food?

Meanwhile, Apple News+ Food is included for everyone with an Apple News+ subscription ($13/month). And since Apple News+ is only included in Apple One Premier, you’ll also get Apple News+ Food as part of your Premier subscription.

Apple News+ Food is a new culinary section for Apple News+ subscribers that will be available on the iPhone and iPad when iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 arrive in April.

The section comprises “tens of thousands of recipes—as well as stories about restaurants, healthy eating, kitchen essentials, and more—from the world’s top food publishers, including Allrecipes, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Good Food and Serious Eats,” Apple wrote in the Apple News+ Food announcement.

Apple News+ is included in the Apple One Premier bundle. The service is available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.

Save money with Apple One

Save money by opting for an Apple One subscription. For new subscribers, any subscriptions included in their Apple One tier that they don’t already have are free for the first month. Apple One comes with no commitment, meaning you can cancel your subscription at any time in Settings > Apple Account at least a day before your monthly renewal date. I also like that the Family Sharing feature lets you share all those subscriptions and iCloud storage with up to five family members.
