Kickstarter: Peak Design’s Roller Pro is the brand’s award-winning take on what a roller bag should be
After successfully launching of Peak Design’s Outdoor Line of backpacks and sling bags, which started out as a crowdfunded Kickstarter campaign and rapidly moved to the brand’s official website for purchase, it seems the popular bag and camera accessory maker has taken to the drawing board once more, this time taking aim at the aspiring traveler.

Peak Design is known for its unique and trend-setting bags and packing accessories, but until now, all their bags could have been categorized as backpacks, duffel bags, slings, or totes. The one thing missing from that list is a roller bag – one that would be useful not only for airline travel, but also for on-the-go professionals in town or at work.
Peak Design’s Roller Pro is the brand’s attempt to re-think traditional roller cases. It improves upon many of the shortcomings of generic roller cases by enhancing volumetric storage space with a retractable SlimDrive Trolly System, which is a set of ultra-slim carbon fiber trolly arms that terminate at a machined aluminum handle with a machined aluminum locking and release button.
The roller case itself is built with 550D fabric, giving it a semi-soft exterior, while an interior polycarbonate shell protects everything stored within from damage. The inside of that shell is felt-lined, and you can either pack things into the shell and use the side-mounted bungee clips to retain all the contents, or you can use Peak Design’s award-winning Camera Cube system to Tetris all your camera equipment into the Roller Pro.
Speaking of Camera Cube, Peak Design is launching an all-new Extra Large Camera Cube size, which is made especially for the Roller Pro. With it, you can store more of your camera gear than in any of Peak Design’s previous Camera Cube sizes; of course, you can still use your smaller Camera Cubes if you already have them.
The door of Roller Pro opens using a hinge-based drawbridge system, equipped with bungees that keep it from opening too wide, as well as a slow-cost hinge that prevents the door from slamming down on any equipment you might have inside. The door also features three separate zippered compartments, where you can store accessories. If you don’t need the zippered compartments, you can roll them up to increase volumetric space.
Roller Pro users will also find a sleeve inside where they can store their laptop, such as up to the size of a 16-inch MacBook Pro, so that they always have what they need when traveling abroad.
Like most of Peak Design’s products, you can expect to find grab handles just about everywhere on the Roller Pro, as well as no-fuss zippers and various tether points that the brand refers to as its Cord Hook External Carry system. On the inside, users will also find an aluminum key tether.
In what can only be described as a welcomed addition to Peak Design’s storage and packing lineup, Roller Pro is one of the brand’s most highly requested items and has been through countless stages of research and development. Now’s your chance to fund this project so that it can go into full manufacturing swing and become a mainstream replacement for the ugly ordinary roller bag.
You can stand behind Peak Design’s Roller Pro via the Kickstarter campaign starting today through April 14th and take advantage of early bird pricing. Peak Design expects the project to be fully funded rather quickly, with sales shipping from Peak Design’s official website as soon as late June.
The Roller Pro will carry a retail price of $599.95, while the XL Camera Cube will carry a retail price of $139.95.
