iPhone 16e is announced and pre-orders are live! Apple, seemingly abandoning the budget market, stuff the newest handheld full of upgraded features, thus eliminating the “SE” line in favor of a modern “16” device variant.

Shockingly, the iPhone 16e includes a Super Retina XDR display, with an OLED panel and 460 ppi resolution. If you are wondering why the 16e is not $429 like the previous SE lineup, you can begin pointing a finger at the HDR-ready display.
While the device lacks the full camera array of the iPhone 16 devices above it, the 16e does include a 2-in-1 camera system allowing 12MP 2x telephoto zoom and a standard 48MP camera.
The current generation A18 chipset is also onboard, which is one of the other characteristics you can assume increased the price, along with FaceID and Dolby Vision compatible 4k video recording.

Whether you are impressed by Apple Intelligence or not, it does require an incredible amount of on-device compute. With the A18 processor, Apple was able to include Apple Intelligence for the iPhone 16e. Therefore it does have “Apple Intelligence Inside.” A fun play on the old Intel Inside advertising campaign from the PC market in the early ’90’s, BasicAppleGuy has a set of chromatic stickers featuring the Apple six color palette and Apple Intelligence logo.
