Palera1n team confirms jailbreak tool works on iPadOS 18.4 beta 1 on the iPad (7th generation)

Apple seeded its first iOS & iPadOS 18.4 developer betas on Friday to set the groundwork for major upgrades in Apple Intelligence and other things. But as most jailbreakers already know, none of these firmware updates post-iOS 16.5.1 can be jailbroken on any arm64e (A12 and later) device.
Fortunately, the palera1n jailbreak for those still using an older pre-A12 chip arm64 device can jailbreak the first iPadOS 18.4 beta on the one and only compatible tablet that can run the latest firmware from Apple: the iPad (7th generation).
In a post shared to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), palera1n co-developer Nick Chan (@riscv64) shared a screenshot teaser of the palera1n jailbreak being achieved on iPadOS 18.4 developer beta 1. Moreover, the Sileo package manager reveals that this is a rootful (not rootless) version of the jailbreak, which many users still prefer over the newer rootless standard used by not only palera1n, but also Dopamine.
While it isn’t much of a surprise that palera1n works considering how the jailbreak uses a hardware-level bootrom exploit in the A11 and older ships called checkm8 that can’t be patched with a software update by Apple, we would have expected Apple to at least try and complicate things on the software side with more mitigations, and it appears they didn’t really do so.
The palera1n team regularly shares updates regarding support for Apple’s latest firmware in an effort to remind users that they’re still actively developing the tool and keeping it supported on the latest firmware versions on supported hardware.
It seems likely that palera1n will continue to support the latest Apple firmware until the company releases iPadOS 19, after which support for the iPad (7th generation) is expected to end and jailbreakers will no longer be able to enjoy jailbreaking Apple’s latest firmware unless someone releases an entirely new jailbreak tool.
