Latest iPadOS 18.3.1 update still jailbreakable on iPad 7th generation via palera1n, right out of the box

While there isn’t yet a jailbreak for iOS & PadOS 17 or 18 on devices equipped with an A12 or newer chip, also commonly referred to as arm64e devices, the fact remains that the palera1n team still maintains the checkm8 bootrom exploit-powered jailbreak for the latest versions of iOS & iPadOS on devices equipped with A11 and older chips, also known as arm64 devices.
With this week’s release of iOS & iPadOS 18.3.1, it’s worth noting that the iPad (7th generation) continues to be the one and only supported iPad model that users can jailbreak whilst running iPadOS 18, and as /r/jailbreak Discord server owner Aaron pointed out in a post shared in the server’s announcements tab this week, that includes the latest iPadOS 18.3.1 release.
That said, those who have an iPad (7th generation) are free to update to iPadOS 18.3.1 and may continue jailbreaking this particular device with palera1n. Owners of all newer iPad models are advised to stay on the lowest firmware version they possibly can if they have any intention of jailbreaking those devices in the future.
Likewise, for older palera1n-supported iPads that can’t run iPadOS 18.3.1, the iPadOS 17.7.5 remains jailbreakable with this tool as well.
This is good news, because sometimes Apple likes to issue small updates to their firmware that break the existing jailbreak process or device stability, requiring the palera1n team to issue updates to the jailbreak tool to address those concerns and continue usability.
These updates didn’t include any significant new features for these devices, but rather addressed a security vulnerability involving an attacker’s ability to disable USB Restricted Mode on a locked device that may have been actively exploited in the wild.
It seems likely that when Apple announces iPadOS 19 this year, the iPad (7th generation) will not be getting that particular update. With that mind, iPadOS 18 is expected to be the last firmware for palera1n to support.
Are you happy that even the latest firmware at the time of this writing remains jailbreakable on palera1n-compatible devices despite no updates to the tool being issued by the palera1n team? Let us know in the comments section down below.
