The redesigned Mac mini is so small it can go anywhere with you, but then you worry about someone snatching it away. Enter Kensington, a company that has been making secure locks for ages and is synonymous with anti-theft systems for hardware electronics. The metal anchor is attached to a rubberized metal cable to protect the Mac mini’s aluminum chassis from scratches and dings. The cable is 72 inches long (183cm) and secured with a combination lock, made from carbon steel and sporting protective nylon sheathing.

The kit lets you secure your Mac mini to a heavy table or other permanent object, deterring thieves and protecting from grab-and-run thefts at public locations. That said, I wouldn’t leave my Mac mini in unattended locations because the lock won’t deter a determined thief equipped with a wire cutter.

You can purchase the Kensington Security Mount for Mac mini via the online Apple store, priced at $70. It comes with a five-year limited warranty. The box includes a mounting bracket, a NanoSaver combination lock and a silicone lock bar cap.

Kensington has created custom security locks and solutions for other Apple products in the past. For example, it offers a locking kit designed for the Mac Studio workstation. It even makes regular accessories, like an iPad docking station that doubles as a multi-device wireless charger with a pair of Qi charging pads for your iPhone and AirPods along with an optional Apple Watch charger.

Kensington designed its anti-theft system back in the mid-1980s. You typically attach a small loop at the end of a cable with a key or combination lock to a table or similar permanent object. If you see a metal-reinforced hole labeled with a small padlock symbol on your Apple device, that’s a Kensington lock.
