Satechi has released full details for the refreshed Mac mini stand and hub. The accessory has fewer ports than before, but some of them are now faster.

The company previewed the redesigned Stand & Hub in November 2024. It’s got three legacy USB-A ports like in previous versions, with two of them now supporting USB 3.2 speeds of up to 10Gbps instead of one. The third USB-A port is USB 2.0.

The new M4 Mac mini has a power button on the bottom instead of the back, where it’s impractical to reach without lifting your Mac mini. Satechi’s revamped Stand & Hub solves this with an opening on its back allowing you to reach the computer’s power button more easily than before.

Another major upgrade is the built-in memory card reader. The previous Stand & Hub had microSD and SD card readers, but they were UHS-I, so they were relatively slow. UHS-I is 104MB/s, and I don’t want to sit and wait until my multi-gigabyte photoshoot transfers. Thankfully, the updated Stand & Hub brings an SD card reader with UHS-II speeds (312MB/s). However, it also removes the microSD slot.

There’s also one USB-C port (USB 3.2 speeds), but this hub remains USB-C-only; it still doesn’t support Thunderbolt, making it a bit of a tougher sell than before. The hub still comes versions with and without a user-expandable NVMe enclosure, but it now supports external SSD drives up to 4TB in size and 10Gbps transfer speeds. Most M.2 sizes are supported, including 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280.

Heat-dissipating vents at the bottom and a recessed area at the top don’t interfere with Wi-Fi or the M4 Mac mini’s new airflow system.

Pricing and availability

The redesigned hub brings legacy USB-A ports, an SD card reader and expanded storage options to your M4 Mac mini for the same $100 as before.
