How to fix an Apple Watch stuck in Low Power Mode
Apple Watch stuck in Low Power Mode? Here’s how to exit Power Reserve Mode and regain normal functionality.
Just like the iPhone, the Apple Watch has a Low Power Mode feature that you can turn on and off from Control Center or the Settings app. Low Power Mode limits or disables several watch features to extend its battery life.
Occasionally, your Apple Watch may get stuck in Low Power Mode, making it impossible to turn off through Settings or Control Center. This issue is usually caused by software glitches or watchOS bugs but can be easily resolved.
Note: The old manual Power Reserve Mode is no longer available on Apple Watch. But if your wearable is running watchOS 8 or earlier and is stuck in Power Reserve Mode, then these tips will help you fix that.
If Low Power Mode doesn’t turn off at 80% battery
Low Power Mode on iPhone and Apple Watch should turn off automatically when your device gets charged to 80% battery. However, unlike the iPhone, you have an extra option to enable Low Power Mode on your watch for 1, 2, or 3 days.
So for however many days you choose, your Apple Watch won’t exit Low Power Mode when it reaches 80% battery. This is by design, as your watch is simply following your instructions to stay in this battery-saving mode for a set number of days.
Force restart your Apple Watch
Turning your watch off and back on should smoothen potential software glitches. As a result, you should no longer have issues turning off Low Power Mode from watchOS Control Center or Settings.
In case a normal restart doesn’t help, force restart your watch by pressing the side button and the Digital Crown together until the Apple logo shows on the screen.
Let it charge for a few minutes
When your Apple Watch refuses to power on or is stuck in battery-saving mode, just place it on its charger and leave it untouched for somewhere between 10 and 30 minutes.
Once your drained-out watch has charged enough, it should power on automatically, and then you can turn off Low Power Mode.
If your watch was already adequately charged, turn it off and then place it on the charger. Your watch will power on automatically, and then you should be able to exit the stuck Low Power Mode from Settings or Control Center.
Use a different charging puck and adapter
If your Apple Watch doesn’t power on even after putting it on the charger for a while, it can be because the charging puck or the adapter has stopped working. So, borrow an Apple Watch charger from a family member or friend and see if this helps.
Note: Even though you can charge your AirPods with your Apple Watch charger, you can’t charge Apple Watch with regular wireless chargers or even Apple’s MagSafe chargers. You must use the charging puck provided in the box or a certified third-party charger designed especially for the Apple Watch.
Ping your watch from Find My
If your Apple Watch continues to stay stuck in Low Power Mode, open the Find My app on your iPhone, select your watch from the Devices tab, and tap Play Sound.
Once your Apple Watch speaker has played the Find My alert tone, tap Dismiss and then restart it. After that, go to watchOS Control Center or Settings app, and you should be able to turn off Low Power Mode.
Update your Apple Watch to fix future issues
Keeping your iPhone and Apple Watch updated is generally a good idea. So, if your Apple Watch gives you these kinds of troubles regularly, you might consider updating it to the latest version of watchOS.
Note: If you are using watchOS beta on your Apple Watch, consider unenrolling from the beta program.
Erase and set up your watch again
Finally, as a last resort, you can erase your Apple Watch and set it up again. This should clear out any persistant bugs or glitches.
