Apple has confirmed that it will release iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence, new hearing health features and other changes and important fixes on October 28.

MacRumors notes that the Cupertino company has officially confirmed the timing of the update to reviewers to whom it gave early access to the new hearing health features, including The Verge, Wired, TechRadar, CNBC and Tom’s Guide.

Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 includes writing tools, smart replies, notification summaries, audio transcription, a new Siri design, Photos slideshows from prompts (plus a Clean Up tool) and more. Additional features will come via later updates, including ChatGPT integration with Siri and AI-powered image and emoji creation.

New hearing health features include hearing protection, hearing testing, and hearing aid functionality, for which Apple received FDA authorization.

iOS 18.1 will be released on October 28

iOS 18.1 also packs a bunch of tweaks, like the ability to reset the Control Center to its factory layout (and separate connectivity toggles), hiding the option to turn off AirPods noise cancellation, a watchlist in the TV app, using Camera Control to activate the selfie camera, drag and drop in iPhone Mirroring and more.

Needless to say, iOS 18.1 brings important fixes and security patches. For starters, there’s a fix for random iPhone 16 freezes and restarts that disgruntled owners complained about in online forums like Reddit and Apple Support Communities.

If unplayed episodes in the Podcasts app appear marked as played, iOS 18 will fix it. If videos filmed at 4K 60 while the device warm stutter while scrubbing them in the Photos app, iOS 18.1 will fix that too.

iOS 18.1 also fixes a problem where a digital car key may not unlock or start a vehicle with passive entry after restoring from a backup or transferring from another iPhone.
