Apple TV+ is coming to Amazon’s Prime Video as an add-on subscription
If you use Amazon’s video-streaming service, you’ll soon be able to purchase Apple TV+ as an add-on subscription within the Prime Video app.
Amazon announced that Apple TV+ will be available as an add-on subscription on Prime Video in the United States later in October. Apple TV+ will be priced at $10/month through Prime Video, the same monthly fee as the standalone Apple TV+ subscription, after a free 7-day trial. The Prime Video app will start showing an Apple TV+ add-on subscription later this month, Amazon said.
“Once it becomes available later this month, Prime members will be able to subscribe to Apple TV+ with no extra apps to download beyond Prime Video, and no cable required,” the company said. “The subscription can be canceled at any time.”
Once Apple TV+ is added to your Prime Video account, you’ll be able to watch the service anywhere the Prime Video app is available. This can also remove some of the friction associated with using Apple TV+ as some people don’t realize it’s possible to stream Apple TV+ without Apple hardware.
Apple TV+ is coming soon to Prime Video
This is a smart move and a win-win for everyone. Apple gets to expand its service footprint by targeting Prime Video subscribers. Amazon gets another add-on subscription that can be sold through Prime Video to earn a commission. Cable cutters, of course, gain yet another option. Needless to say, you can only buy these add-on subscriptions if you’re an existing Prime Video subscriber.
Prime Video offers more than a hundred add-on subscription options to subscribers in the United States. Third-party subscriptions use Amazon’s billing system.
The timing of the announcement couldn’t be better, as Apple TV+ is about to launch new seasons of popular shows, including Severance, Slow Horses and The Morning Show, plus original films such as Wolf starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney.
Apple TV+ also offers third-party video subscriptions called channels. Third-party channels available through Apple TV+ include Starz, AMC+, Hallmark+, Paramount+, MGM+, Mubi, Cinemax, Sundance Now, CuriosityStream and others. A recent job listing indicated that an official Android app for Apple TV+ might be in the works.
