The new FDA-cleared Apple Watch feature that detects sings of possible sleep apnea has been enabled for beta testers in the latest watchOS 11.1 beta 6.

Sleep apnea detection has been available for regular users since iOS 18.0 and watchOS 11.0 released in September. However, according to release notes on the Apple Developer website, it was missing from watchOS 11.1 until beta 6.

Sleep apnea detection requires Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2. Older models, including the first Apple Watch Ultra, are unsupported because its Neural Engine isn’t fast enough. You must also set up sleep tracking on your Apple Watch for it to detect possible sleep apnea.
