4 reasons to buy AirPods 4 with ANC instead of AirPods 4
Wondering if you should spend more on AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) or get the regular AirPods 4? In this guide, we list four reasons why splurging on the ANC model is a better choice than regular AirPods 4.
Unlike all previous generations, the newest AirPods 4 comes in two flavors:
- The cheaper AirPods 4 ($129)
- AirPods 4 with ANC ($179)
There’s a lot of overlap between both models.
Both have the same new design and sound quality. They support Spatial Audio, allow you to pick up and decline calls by using head gestures, have IP54 dust, sweat, and water resistance, and offer up to 5 hours of listening time per charge (provided Noise Cancellation is off).
The wireless pods and Charging Cases of both models share the same dimensions, with the only difference being that the case of the ANC model is heavier by 2.4 grams.
Now that we have mentioned the similarities, it’s time to focus on the four differences that make the pricey AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation a better purchase than the regular AirPod 4.
1. Wireless Charging Case
Unlike its cheaper brethren, the Charging Case you get with AirPods 4 ANC supports wireless charging. This makes it so much more convenient to power up by simply putting it on a regular Qi-certified wireless charger, MagSafe charger, and even your Apple Watch charger!
So, if you have invested in wireless charging solutions or are planning on doing so, getting the ANC model is a no-brainer. AirPods and their battery easily last well for two years, and it’s recommended that you future-proof them.
Important: AirPods Pro comes with a MagSafe Charging Case that has magnets that stick to MagSafe chargers or Apple Watch chargers, ensuring optimal charging and a satisfying feel when you put them to charge. AirPod 4 ANC Charging Case has regular wireless charging without magnets. But you can still charge it with MagSafe chargers, albeit without the magnetic effect.
2. Noise cancellation
Having a pair of AirPods with Active Noise Cancellation can be very handy. While AirPods 4 with ANC does not have silicone tips like AirPods Pro and thus does not seal the ears perfectly, the Active Noise Cancellation still works surprisingly well on it.
Just like AirPods Pro 2, AirPod 4 with ANC supports all three Noise Control modes: Noise Cancellation, Adaptive, and Transparency.
So, if you have tried Noise Cancellation on other earphones and find it useful, dropping the extra $50 and getting the ANC one would be wise.
3. Conversation Awareness
Imagine you are wearing your AirPods in your house or in a park, and someone comes near you and starts talking. If you have Conversation Awareness enabled, it will automatically lower the media sound on your AirPods and enhance the person’s voice so you can hear them talking. And once the conversation finishes, media volume will return to normal.
This is a handy feature to have if you primarily use your AirPods at places where you expect other people to come up to you and talk.
4. Case has a built-in speaker for Find My
Do you have a habit or history of leaving your AirPods or items attached to AirTag behind? In that case, you must absolutely opt for the AirPods 4 with ANC, as its Charging Case has a tiny speaker that lets you play a sound on it using the Find My app on your iPhone so you can locate it.
These are the main reasons to get the pricier ANC model instead of the regular one. However, if you are super tight on budget or the above-mentioned features do not seem that useful to you, the regular AirPods 4 are still a great choice with good sound and a decent battery. They also offer the same magical connection experience across all your Apple devices that you expect from AirPods.
