Apple’s new feature that mirrors your iPhone on a Mac will support drag and drop when iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1 arrive in October.

macOS Sequoia has many exciting improvements to explore, but my favorite new feature is definitely iPhone Mirroring. However, iPhone Mirroring launched alongside iOS 18.0 and macOS Sequoia 15.0 with drag and drop “coming later.”

Well, Apple released new betas of iOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 yesterday, which let you drag stuff like images and documents from the iPhone Mirroring window and drop them onto your Mac projects, and vice versa.

The feature is available in iOS 18.1 beta 5 and macOS Sequoia beta 5. If you like living on the bleeding edge of technology, install the betas on your iPhone and Mac to try out drag and drop in iPhone Mirroring. It seems to work as advertised.

You can, say, select an image in Photos and drag it from the iPhone Mirroring window onto a Pages document on your Mac. The reverse also works—you can drag files from the Finder on your Mac into the Files app in the iPhone Mirroring window.

What is iPhone Mirroring? How does it work?

iPhone‌ Mirroring is a Continuity feature that works without any special setup as long as your iPhone and Mac are within Bluetooth range, have Wi-Fi turned on and are signed into the same Apple ID account with two-factor authentication.

Launch the iPhone Mirroring app from your Mac’s Dock or Launchpad to get started. To pick an iPhone you’d like to use with iPhone Mirroring, venture into System Settings > Desktop & Dock and click the menu next to iPhone under Widgets.

You can adjust whether the Mac’s password or Touch ID is required when launching iPhone Mirroring in iPhone Mirroring > Settings. To choose whether to receive iPhone notifications on your Mac, venture into System Settings > Notifications.
Keep in mind that features like AirPlay, Sidecar and Personal Hotspot don’t work in iPhone Mirroring. Peruse our iPhone Mirroring tutorial for other details.
