iOS 18 could bring “updates” to the iPhone’s Control Center

The iPhone’s Control Center feature could see some “updates” in iOS 18. This is the third time we’ve been promised a Control Center redesign.
The tidbit came in a tweet by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who reacted to reports about a unified overhaul of the Settings app in iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15.
“A lot of people using macOS 15 and iOS 18 keep mentioning the revamp to Settings, reads the tweet. “Obviously not a huge deal, but it’s getting a new UI with a reorganized, cleaner layout that’s more simple to navigate. It also has much improved search. There are also updates to Control Center.”
iOS 18 could bring “updates” to the Control Center
Gurman didn’t detail “updates to Control Center,” but MacRumors has learned that “Apple has internally tested a redesigned Control Center for iOS 18.”
The site appears to be piggybacking on Gurman’s credibility because “we cannot confirm if these changes have been finalized.” Well, thanks for this non-report! Anyone could have made such a prediction after reading a tweet by the most influential reporter who has by far the most deeply entrenched sources within Apple.
The Control Center debuted in 2013 as part of iOS 7. Four years later, iOS 11 redesigned the Control Center which has since then remained largely the same.
We heard this story before
In 2021, a sketchy rumor based on a tweet by X user @Jioriku claimed the iPhone’s Control Center would get overhauled in iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. As that didn’t pan out, the feature was again rumored to receive a redesign of sorts two years later.
At that time, MacRumors ran a story claiming iOS 17 would bring major changes to the Control Center based on a source with “a proven track record”. The overhaul was supposed to coincide with the feature’s tenth anniversary, but that rumor also failed.
What’s different this time is that Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman threw its weight behind this rumor. Gurman has a strong track record, and I wouldn’t bet against his predictions. The Control Center is starting to feel a little stale, so moving things around and reorganizing the different controls could help breathe new life into it.
