The RetroArch emulator has hit the App Store, so download it to relive classic titles across 38 different retro gaming consoles on your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
Recently, Apple allowed emulators of retro gaming consoles on the App Store, which opened the floodgates to apps like Delta, Gamma and Provenance.
Previously available on Mac and PC computers, a new emulator has now arrived on the App Store—download RetroArch to play classic titles for the Atari, Commodore, Nintendo, Sega, Sony and other systems right on your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
It’s the first retro console emulator to hit the tvOS App Store, allowing you to play games with a compatible controller on the biggest screen at your home.

The app is free to download and use, with no paid upgrades, advertising or in-app purchases getting in the way. Created by Daniel De Matteis, RetroArch is a frontend for emulators, game engines, video games, media players, etc.
A broad range of features is supported. RetroArch automatically saves game states and lets you enter cheats. It supports MFi controllers with custom controller overlays.
With RetroAchievements, you can complete the achievements, compare scores on top leaderboards, and unlock new content in classic games even though these ancient titles weren’t programmed with unlockable achievements in mind.
According to the RetroArch website, a new RetroArch version is coming soon and a macOS version is in the works but no word on when it might drop.
You must bring your own ROMs
Gaming emulators are perfectly legal, but distributing ROMs online isn’t. You are, however, permitted to create a ROM from your own game install disc or cartridge.
