Apple shares Vision Pro ordering tips

Apple has shared Vision Pro ordering tips with would-be shoppers ahead of pre-orders for the $3500 headset that’ll kick off later in January.

Purchasing the head-worn device will be more complex than Apple’s other products, as one of the requirements involves scanning your face to ensure a proper fit.

Also, early adopters who have eyesight issues may want to find their prescription if they’re looking to purchase corrective lenses for the headset.

Vision Pro ordering tips from Apple

With pre-orders kicking off on January 19, Apple has shared ordering tips with folks who signed up to receive email updates about Vision Pro’s availability.

“When you order Apple Vision Pro, you’ll need to scan your face with an iPhone or iPad with Face ID,” the message reads. “This helps us determine the right size Light Seal and head bands, which work together to give you a precise fit.”

This feature is available in the January 11 update to the Apple Store app.

Corrective lenses

Apple also shares tips regarding corrective lenses for those who need them. The process is a bit cumbersome as you’ll need to upload your prescription to Apple to have appropriate Zeiss-made optical inserts delivered alongside your Vision Pro.

Because Apple Vision Pro is designed to be worn without glasses, we’ve partnered with Zeiss to create custom optical inserts that accommodate most prescriptions. When you order, we’ll ask a few quick questions to find out if you need optical inserts. If you do, you’ll upload a valid, unexpired prescription from a US eye‑care professional after checkout.

Optical inserts attach magnetically to Vision Pro. Apple orders corrective lenses from German optical specialist Zeiss. Reading lenses are priced at $99, and prescription lenses will be available in exchange for $149 (very reasonable prices for high-quality Zeiss lenses). Because they require a valid prescription, corrective lenses won’t be available for purchase from Apple’s brick-and-mortar stores.

In-store demos

Lastly, Apple reminds shoppers that in-store demos will be taking place over the launch weekend, starting at 8am on Friday, February 2. “Demo times will be available Friday through the weekend on a first‑come, first‑served basis,” it notes.

The Vision Pro roll-out will be carefully choreographed because Apple wants early adopters to come try Vision Pro in its retail stores to see for themselves why the headset’s cutting-edge technology justifies its high price.

Vision Pro is arriving soon

Pre-orders for the $3500 headset will open on Friday, January 19, at 5am PT. Vision Pro will be available for purchase in Apple’s retail stores, through the Apple Store app and on apple.com. The device will be available in the United States. The company said that Vision Pro will expand to additional countries later this year.
