Satechi’s first mechanical keyboard, dubbed the SM1 Slim Mechanical Backlit Bluetooth Keyboard, is available to order today via the Satechi web store for $100, with a 20 percent launch discount available with the promo code CES20.
Say hello to the Satechi SM1 Slim Mechanical Backlit Bluetooth Keyboard
The keyboard has a 75 percent layout compared with its full-size counterpart, with removable keycaps and adjustable feet for optimum stability and comfort.
The brown switches are low profile and have a shorter travel distance for a more comfortable typing experience. The keyboard is backlit, so you can easily type in dark environments. To cycle through the fourteen different backlight patterns, press the key with a lightbulb symbol on it, located above the Delete key.
You can change the keyboard angle to your liking in order to reduce strain on your wrists and hands, with the adjustable feet preventing movement while typing. Satechi’s engineers thoughtfully added stabilizers beneath big keys like Delete, Return, Space bar and left Shift for a uniform press.
Works with 4 devices at a time
The integrated 2500mAh battery recharges via the built-in USB-C port. You can also use the keyboard when connected via the USB-C port.
Wired mode decreases key latency compared with wireless operation, which can make a difference when playing fast-paced action games. You can pair the keyboard over Bluetooth with up to four devices simultaneously.
To switch to a specific device, press the Function key followed by the 1, 2, 3 or 4 key. Keys 1 and 2 activate Bluetooth 5.0 channels. Key 3 uses a 2.4 GHz USB receiver to connect wirelessly to an additional peripheral. Key 4 is for wired mode.
Mac and Windows-specific keys
While this keyboard sports Mac-specific keys, it works like a regular Bluetooth or USB-C keyboard on foreign platforms like Windows, Chrome OS, Linux and more. To that end, you can easily switch between Mac and Windows layouts on the fly with a press of the dedicated Mac or Win key.
With the Windows layout enabled, the Mac-specific Command and Option keys take on functions of the Windows and Alt keys. The function key row includes shortcuts for macOS functions like on Apple’s keyboards, including screen and keyboard brightness, media controls, Spotlight search, Mission Control, etc.
Another nice touch for Apple users is a dedicated Lock Screen shortcut with the same effect as choosing the Lock Screen option in the Apple menu.
