Final Cut Pro is Apple’s non-linear video editing software that video creators and Hollywood use. Logic Pro is a digital audio workstation and MIDI sequencer for audio production. Both apps used to be Mac-only, but that will change come May 23.
According to the announcement in Apple Newsroom, the apps are optimized for touch and have new interfaces that support multi-touch. You can easily import projects created in iMovie for iOS and export projects for use in Final Cut Pro for Mac. Logic Pro for iPad can open projects created in GarageBand for iOS.
A few days ago, the leaker behind the Twitter account @analyst941 predicted that Final Cut Pro for iPad would drop later this year, with Logic Pro following in 2015. There have been some questions about this account’s predictions though we now know it was right about Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro coming to the iPad.

Video creators will appreciate a new jog wheel for interacting with content in new ways in the iPad edition of Final Cut Pro, the ability to navigate the Magnetic Timeline, move clips, and make fast frame-accurate edits.
A feature called Live Drawing lets you draw and write on top of video with Apple Pencil. On M2 iPad Pros, the Apple Pencil hover feature allows you to quickly skim and preview footage. Keyboard shortcuts are supported, too, as is Reference Mode.
If you edit video for a living, the company notes, you’ll love pro camera mode:
Pro camera mode brings even greater control to the creation process on iPad. Video creators can shoot high-quality video in portrait or landscape orientation, monitor audio and available recording time, and manually control settings like focus, exposure, and white balance. Creators can capture, edit, and publish from a single device while in the field, and on iPad Pro with M2, users can even record in ProRes.
Even better, Final Cut Pro for iPad supports multicam video editing. You can s set the app to automatically edit clips together and sync up to four angles together, then switch between them with a tap.
AI-powered features in Final Cut Pro for iPad include Scene Removal Mask, Auto Crop and Voice Isolation. To help boost your creations, the software includes a library of motion graphics, including HDR backgrounds, effects, transitions, audio, customizable animated patterns, and professional soundtracks that automatically adjust to the length of a video.
Logic Pro for iPad
The app supports multi-touch gestures like pinch-to-zoom and swipe-to-scroll. You can record audio using the iPad’s built-in mics, make precision edits and draw detailed track automation with Apple Pencil. An entirely new sound browser shows you all available instrument patches, audio patches, plug‑in presets, samples and loops in a single location.
Creators can shape the sonic qualities of their music with over 100 powerful instruments and effects plug-ins in Logic Pro. Effects like vintage EQs, compressors and reverbs let users tweak and fine-tune their tracks. Logic Pro on iPad comes with a massive collection of realistic-sounding instruments and powerful synths including Sample Alchemy—a new sample manipulation instrument that can transform any audio sample with the tap of a finger.
With Beat Breaker, a new time and pitch-morphing plug-in, music producers can reshape sounds; Quick Sampler will transform audio samples into playable instruments; Step Sequencer makes it a cinch to program drum patterns, bass lines and melodies; while Drum Machine Designer lets you come up with your custom drum kits by applying samples and plug‑ins to any drum pad.
