watchOS 9 brings three brand new watch faces: Metropolitan, Playtime and Lunar. But that’s not where improvements to watch faces stop as the software enhances Apple’s other existing watch faces like Astronomy, Modular and Portrait in ways more than one. Changes are also coming to the Modular, Modular Compact and X-Large watch faces. On top of that, watchOS 9 adds advances to Apple’s wearable platform in terms of sleep-tracking functions, as well as health and fitness improvements. The low power mode is coming to the Apple Watch
In terms of the little touches, watchOS 9 brings low power mode to the Apple Watch for the first time. With low power mode turned on, your Apple Watch stops background fetch and a few other processes to help preserve battery life. With watchOS 9, you lose a year of compatibility because it removes support for the Apple Watch Series 3 model. The official watchOS 9 system requirements state that you’ll need an Apple Watch Series 4 or later to install watchOS 9 (certain advanced features still require newer models). When will watchOS 9 be released to all users?
Apple is currently testing watchOS 9 and other software updates. The first developer beta of watchOS 9 was released after the conclusion of the June 9 WWDC22 keynote. Apple is going to be testing watchOS 9 with its registered developers throughout the summer. The general public will be permitted to test the software when Apple launches the watchOS 9 public beta in July. The company has said that watchOS 9 will release to all Apple Watch users alongside iOS 16 in the fall.
