Rumor: 2020 iPhone pricing will chiefly remain the same as last year

Apple is expected to release four new iPhone models this year but prices will remain largely intact despite all four devices using new technologies like OLED screens, 5G cellular networking and LiDAR scanner for improved augmented reality, photography and more.

The information comes from increasingly reliable John Prosser who correctly predicted when Apple was showing the AirPods Pro to the media ahead of launch and reported the release date of the new iPhone SE. “These prices were given to me from the same source that nailed the iPhone SE launch date,” he said.

As noted by AppleInsider, the only price change for this year’s iPhone is thought to be for the iPhone 11 successor which is expected to retail for $749, a $50 premium over the current 6.1-inch iPhone which starts at $699. The price increase most likely addresses the fact that the baseline model will swap its LCD panel with the pricier OLED technology.

“The 6.1-inch iPhone 12 is obviously a follow-up to the current $700 6.1-inch iPhone 11,” Prosser said in a tweet. “So technically, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 model is increasing in price.”

He added that a new 5.4-inch iPhone 12 model will start at $649.

The 5.4 and 6.1-inch models should have a dual-camera system, with the flagship iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max using a triple-camera system with a LiDAR scanner.
