Apple releases iOS 18.6, macOS Sequoia 15.6, watchOS 11.6 and other updates

Be sure to download and install iOS 18.6 on your iPhone and other updates from Apple to get the latest bug fixes and security protections for all your devices.

Apple on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, released iOS 18.6, iPadOS 18.6, macOS Sequoia 15.6, watchOS 11.6, tvOS 18.6 and visionOS 2.6 updates for its iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Vision Pro devices. iOS 18.6 includes a fix for an issue in the Photos app that could prevent memory movies from being shared.

To install an over-the-air update on your device, go to Settings > General > Software Update (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Vision Pro) or Settings > System > Software Updates > Update Software (Apple TV) or System Settings > General > Software Update (Mac). To install the HomePod 18.6 software, use the Software Update feature in the Home app.

What’s new in iOS 18.6, iPadOS 18.6 and other Apple updates?

Apple will publish release notes for OS 18.6 on the web and update its security page with information on any fixes for critical vulnerabilities in iOS 18.6. There was no official iOS 18.6 changelog available at post time. During the iOS 18.6 testing phase, however, no new features were found. It seems like iOS 18.6 and other updates released today are primarily focused on bug fixes, security updates, and some minor changes for iPhone owners in the European Union.

EU iPhone owners will no longer be subjected to a bunch of scary screens when trying to install apps from third-party marketplaces or apps from the web. Apple put these fear-inducing warnings to dissuade people from using third-party marketplaces, so the EU made Apple change how non-App Store apps are distributed and installed to comply with the Digital Markets Act.

According to Apple’s Developer website, there are now seven screens to click through when installing an app from the web from a particular developer for the first time. However, Subsequent installs of apps from the web from that same developer will have this user experience:

Apple’s page confirms that iOS 8.6 and iPadOS 18.6 offer a newly updated experience for EU iPhone owners who install third-party app marketplaces from the web or install third-party apps from the web.

Even if you don’t live in the EU and don’t care about iOS 18.6 because there are no new features for you, you should still install it to get the latest security updates to address vulnerabilities.
